I would have to say the RTI8 going by the number of woofers. They will hit harder. Plus they are insanely cheap now.

The rti a5's are the new design of the rti8.

RTI8 and RTI A5 both have 2x 6.5 drivers and 1x1"tweeter. So yeah i would think you ahve the rti8's mistaken for another in the line like the 10/12's.
On which is better no idea as i ahve only heard the RTI a5's that i have.

Everything I've seen so far says that the RTiA series sounds warmer and smoother than the RTi series. That the RTi's are brighter and perhaps harsher.
I haven't heard the RtiA's myself yet except for the center channel, but at times I do feel 2 channel is a bit harsh. The RTiAs just came out when I got my RTI's on clearance so they were not in my price range then, but if I had the choice I would go for the newer RTiA series.

Yup, I confused the 10's with the 8's, thought the A7 were the replacements for the RTI8. Oh well. My bad. :o

I have both rti series speakers and rti a series and both can be very bright. For HT they're great but music I am not their biggest fan.

I have not heard the RTi-8 in years but did spend a lot of time with the RTiA5 and years with my RTi-10s. I would vote for the RTiA5 as I found them to be more laid back than my RTi-10. Enough to take the bright edge off and make them much better for music.
