    Peak refers to instantaneous split second performance.

    RMS or continuous refers to just that -- constant power handling.

    Referring to an amp -- peak power is the amount of power you will get out of the amp if you're going to "burp" it for a moment and get every bit of juice out of it. Constant / RMS is what it'll put out every day while you're driving around.

    Same goes for a subwoofer -- peak or max is what it'll take for just a brief moment... rms/constant is what it'll take for hours on end.

    peak is next to useless to know
    be wary
    if it says 1200 peak it can only play around 500-600 continuous
    when you buy amps/speakers look at the continuous
    peak is put on the box to sell it
    well not completely
    but mostly
