Michael Phelps...what a race!

He was beat...second at best but something came from the depths of that swimming machine to win. I don't know how...but he did. Even watching the replays it "looked" like Cavic hit the wall first. I immediately thought the "fix" was on. It wasn't.
The Serbian delegation filed a protest, but conceded that Phelps won after reviewing the tape provided by FINA, swimming's governing body. USA Swimming spokesman Jamie Olson said the tape was slowed to one frame every 10-thousandth of a second to make sure Phelps actually touched first.

It was impossible to tell on regular-speed replays.

"We filed the protest but it is already over," said Branislav Jevtic, Serbia's chief of mission for all sports. "They examined the video and I think the case is closed. The video says (Phelps) finished first.

Men's swimming has proved to be entertaining to say the least. It helps to have Michael Phelps in the water. I have watched swimming for many years. He is a beast, a machine and the best I have ever seen. He has been repeatedly tested over and above the most stringent IOC and FINA tests for the last 6 months to deflect any hint of steroid or performance enhancing drugs. He is the real deal...a freak of nature maybe...but it's all due to genes and hard work.

Why??? This very race is why. They are needed to prove to "doubters" like the Senior Serbian Athletic Officials that did not believe the results. They will believe their eyes before they will believe the information provided by the technology.

And they are no different than anyone else, yes anyone, who would be in that situation. The guy is amazing and has added that additional audience just because he is that good.

Like someone said, technology is great being seeing is believing.

I bet the silver winner wishes he would have taken that extra stroke. Like I heard on the radio, it takes a little bit of luck to win 7 medals, and that was his little bit.

Ive also heard his knees, ankles and elbows are double jointed? He also wears a size 14 shoe.

I watched the Spitz / Pelps interview last night with Costas and I don't think I remember a longer ****/'interview'.............

The guy is great, but Costas basically was telling Spitz to tell everyone how great Phelps was blah blah blah............I mean, I know he's done great things, but that whole thing sounded like someone at NBC sat down with Spitz and wrote out his talking points......

Costas: We'll get to Mark in a few minutes, but Michael, please tell everyone how amazing you are.

Phelps: Isn't that your job? But anyways......I'm the greatest

Costas: Mark, please tell everyone how amazing Phelps is. Isn't he the greatest Olympian ever?

Spitz: Phelps blah blah blah blah EPIC blah blah blah blah......AMAZING blah blah blah most talented athlete ever..........etc....

Phelps: aw gosh.....I am great, I've done great things..........I'll be remembered for being great.........

Costas: Mark, is there anything else you've left out?

Spitz: I knew he was amazing/great when I watched him a year and a half ago.......knew he was gonna be greater than I......blah blah blah

Costas: Michael, anything further to add?

Phelps: I'm speechless...........(5 more minutes on his amazingness)

Costas: Well folks, that concludes our on air **** of Michael Phelps..........tune in tomorrow for more of the same.

Anyways, the race was intense.........I just didn't care for the 30+ minute gushing........

And because I can predict the future:

I know that getting 8 golds like that takes a lot of hard work, etc, but there is a way to interview people where it's not so gushing that it's almost hard to watch.........

Brett... your mock interview was probably one of the funniest posts I have ever read. I'm in stiches here.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Yea... that's definately it... and nobody else can wear a fancy swim suit. Michael Jordan could jump so high because of his shoes too. He wasn't really that great either...I could take him.

As an ex-swimmer, I can say that Phelps truely is nothing short of amazing. The mental strain alone of his last week would have caused most to fail.

Every so often a phenomenon comes along like Jordan, Lance Armstrong, Phelps, etc. that nearly defies explaination.

I think Armstrong just had a fancy bike with extra slippery roller bearings.

Almost all of the swimmers were wearing variations of the same suit. All had the option. It's not exclusive to the U.S. team. Besides, in all of the individual races but one he was clearly dominating the entire field.

Ah, well yeah that sounds dumb. They did the same crap with Tiger Woods when he won the US Open a couple months back...
