Hi,
A few days ago, I noticed a strange smell coming from my Rti10's. They are 8 months old. I use avr 8000 from HK. Both of them smell... It's no fun! :) Anybody has experience with stinky speakers?

I never had that issue, with my speakers at least:eek:, but this subject did come up in another thread recently.

It's hard to describe. They smell like a mix of electrical and melted plastic. It comes mainly from the hole located below the tweeter.

Ok, that's not good. More than likely you have cooked something in the crossovers. You should take a look at them before further use.

I had that problem with my LSi's and it turned out not to be the speakers but the amp was burning up. Odd that I smelled it first by the speakers but that was how I noticed.

I have had some weird smells from all of my polks. But its only noticeable if I drive them hard and have my nose near the port.

I've had faint smell come from my RTi10's as well. My CSi5 has it as well. Even out of the box, you could smell it, when they're turned on, it's faint, but not anywhere near enough to become worried or interested in.

It's weird though. When we first got them, I figured it was the material used to build them and such. Here we are months later and I can still smell it at times. :D
I should've listened way back in 2008, they told me I'd go broke... they were right
