:mad: just bought the sony bdp-s350 and took it home and watched my first blueray movie (the bank job) in dts hd master and i paused it for a momment and when i pressed play a loud pop came from all 7 speakers. How is this bad you ask i broke 3 of my tweeters on my polks. i called sony and they told me thats to bad and will not replace my tweeters. The moral of this story is if you want blown speakers buy a sony BDP-S350.
DO NOT BUY SONY PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!!!

Anytime you pause something, particularly at high volumes... you generally want to turn it down a good bit before pushing play...

If you had it loud enough for a pop to knock out some tweets, you probally had it to loud anyways...

my onkyo 805 was at -25db because i watched the movie at 11 oclock. When i called sony they told me people have been calling about this same problem since it came out this year. He told my they are doing everthing they can to fix (except my speakers)
The only reason i am posting this is because i do not want anyone else to lose out on thier equipement. Just a warnibg

You said your tweeters stopped working...

Check the crossovers, I highly doubt you blew those tweeters...

Probally just heated up a resistor on the crossover or something...

Pop them open and take a look, Polk will take care of you regardless...

I know polk will help because polk has the best customer service i have ever seen (thats why i will only buy polk) it just make my mad because i saved for the blue-ray player and to have i damage my speakers makes me.

jaysonbarnett....dude, that sucks! Though I feel that Sony should be liable for this one, it looks like you have received the "Corporate response". That is, they ain't doing crap but working on an issue that should have never made it to the public to begin with.

That said, try following Vr3MxStyler2k3's advice, then contact Polk before 4:45pm today. See if they have any suggestions for you. It may just be an easy fix. No promises, but definitely worthy of your time. Good luck, sounds like you need some.

I think thats a onkyo 805 problem not the sony. I've read articles on this same issue. I think it only happens when the receiver is doing the decoding and not the blu ray player and it only happen with dts hd master discs.

No need to warn them about the Sony. This is a well known Onkyo problem, and also a problem with other brands that use the same DSP chips. There is an update available to fix it, so that it does not happen again.

When I first heard about this all I could find was the firmware upadte for the 875. I see the 805 is now avaialble. I'm glad this issue resurfaced. I'm not glad it was at the expense of another's failed device though.

Just saw this in the FW upgrade instructions:

Caution: Never turn off the receiver while "Writing…" is displayed. Doing this can cause malfunction that will require hardware repair.

I think I'll be connecting it to a UPS before I attempt it.

i just do not want to re-buy speakers because of it. Like i said thank god i bought polk because they are overnighting my all i need to get back where is was. Onkyo customer service needs to take notes from polk audio because the lady i talked to at onkyo said somewhere in the manual it states that if this product damages or sets fire to anything they will not be liable. I will be looking in the manual because that sounds like a crock of S%^T. I ended the coversation with onkyo with nothing except im really sorry. This will be my last onkyo product EVER. I loved onkyo you get alot for the money, but for me customer service is the most important thing. Products are great until something happens to it then you get what you paid for. All in all my speakers will get fixed and the onkyo will be updated, but onkyo will always leave a bad taste in my mouth forever. SORRY FOR DISSING SONY.EVen though when i called them i got the same customer service i received from onkyo. I wish companies would care about thier customers. Thanx again for your responses and sorry for the rant.

I have yet to see any warranty, for any product, that does not state that they are not responsible for any incidental damage. Including Polks. It's standard practice.

you are correct if i were to hook my 805 to computer speakers and blow them up. Then try to say the speakers suck ( running 130 watts into tiny speakers),but when hardware from a device is faulty there is no excuse. these are things you fix during beta testing if you release a product and hardware breaks another device then that company needs to fix the problem (with customer and the device). Onkyo told me "i feel really bad but there is nothing we can do" that is upaceptable to me. when you buy a car and there is a recall they have to fix it or replace the car free of cost, and it should not be any different for consumer products. this is just my feeling of course

It is good to see Polk taking the high road and doing the right thing. Many manufacturers would leave you hanging. I would definitely contact Onkyo about this incident. Good luck!
