Paradigm mark up question?

OK guys here is my dilemma. I have a Paradigm dealer here in my home town. He tells me that he is not a Paradigm Reference Dealer but he can get the signature series if I want them. (How I have no Idea if he is not a dealer?) But he tells me that Paradigm don't give them much room for mark up. He tells me that his mark up is only 10% but I'm calling B.S.! So do any of you guy know if that sounds right? At this time I'm only wanting the Signature C5 but in the future I'm looking into the S8's, ADP3 and a pair of S4's. This is all to replace my LSi's system sometime. (Like when I find a new job since I and my wife was both discharged from the same company along with around 150 other top seniority employee's).
Man being unemployed sux. I'm bord to tears and The only job that even sounds like I have a shot at is BNSF in Chicago. That means I would have to sell my house and almost anything else thats ties down here and move. Needless to say the wife is not wanting to leave or family's 400+miles behind. Oh we was discharged because of reasons that or lawyer is laughing about. But is boils down to we got a government contract to hire "special needs people" and the government compensates half of there pay. But enough of that!

So what do you guys think? (About the mark up)

I had developed a good relationship with my audio guy. I had bought quite a bit of stuff from him including several sets of Paradigm speakers. I bought a pair of S8's from him also. I think he gave me about 11 percent off list. That was awhile ago (24 months maybe), so there is no telling what a discount is today. Mine were new in the box in Cherry. I had bought a pair of Studio 100 v1 before that for much less and a huge discount but they were demos and the v2s were coming out.

My S8's now live with another Polkie.

He's probably getting these sideways from another dealer and they're splitting the mark up. I can tell you that (as a former retailer) for a 10% mark up it doesn't make sense to get out of bed in the morning.

Thank. I and my wife both devoted 9 years of our life to that place and that is how they did us. Now being 30 and soon to be 31 ( I know I'm still young) I have to go out and find a place in our location that is looking for someone like me in logistics or inventory control. That the tuff part. But I'm also teaching myself how to use Photoshop CS3 and AutoCAD inventor in hopes that I find a job in graphics design or a CNC operator.
Its funny how life throws you a curve ball and you feel like you are up S*th creek with out a paddle. I guess I could always go back to school. LoL

I bought my B&W's new from a local dealer. They gave me the same BS but when I pushed on price I got them down 12%. I am guessing that was near the bottom of negotiating territory for them to still make a decent profit.

I agree that the 10% mark up is BS. Markup of electronics is anywhere from 60-100% at LIST price. Meaning if a speaker's MSRP is $1000, dealer cost of that speaker is likely $400-$600. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Dealers often have working relationships with fellow dealers where they can trade stock. The price at which dealer's pay each other is dealer cost. It's unlikely dealer A will mark something up to dealer B.

Dealers are often given allowances to sell at below MSRP but they can get in trouble with the manufacturer if they discount too much.

Thats what I was thinking. He quoted me a price of $3000 for that center where list is like $3200. I figured he was paying around $1500-$1800 for it and looks at it like the sky was the limit.

From what I've learned, is that Paradigm dealers get a better rating with Paradigm if they keep in good stance with them. Pay their bills on time and such. Allowing for a better profit margin. Some of the best could stand to offer around a 40% discount.
