I guess technically it would be possible - 10/100 BaseT only use something like 2 out of the four twisted pairs on a cat5e cable, but I'm not really sure which two nor do I know what the other two pairs are used for if anything in an ethernet system. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

You can-its not recommended for todays high speed networks (100Mb/s and up) but you can. It pretty much trashes the Cat5e rating. So expect to only use it for 10Mb/s but 100Mb/s should still work-potential crosstalk.interference issues--Not for Gigabit.
Ethernet can use all 4 pairs if operating in Full Duplex mode. So you'll also be losing that potential speed boost (i.e. you can get essentially 200Mb/s thru-put as opposed to 100Mb/s)
If I were to do this manually I would split the blue pair out at each end and run it to the RJ 11 jack, while the Orange and Green go to the RJ45 (Brown can just be left unterminated or used on the RJ11 for Line 2.
You could also use this Hubbell splitter . This splits two of the pairs out for voice (line 1 and line 2) and the other for ethernet use without tocuhing the wireing in the jack itself. You just have to have one at each end.
If you're looking for Cat5 wiring information look for the T568B standard.
I'm not familiar with whole house wiring systems, so I couldn't comment if something better is available in that respect.
For me personally though-unless its a workable temp solution I would run separate lines. Cat5e is cheap enough.____________________

You don't have to. Just pull them both at the same time. Unless you are talking about an existing line.____________________

I'm pretty sure much of this is incorrect. 10/100 only uses 2 pairs for transmit and recieve and duplex is in no way affected.
The pins used are 1,2,3, and 6.
IF you are using the "B" standard, it would be Orange/White, Orange, Green/White, and Green. When inserted into the RJ45 crystal, the first three positions would be filled, positions 4 and 5 would be empty, 6 would be filled, and 7-8 would be empty as well.
You could then use Blue, Blue/White, Brown and Brown/White for your phone line or for speakers. -
Two lines. When the phone rings itis more than 50vdc. Also cordless phones, and faxes on the circuit can introduce noise.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Hmm, using all 4 pairs for Full Duplex was the way I always understood it-never studied it though. I could swear that when I wired up some with only the two pairs, that my autodetecting switches would only work half duplex. And they only worked Full when all 4 pairs were terminated.
I will have to look at and test this again.

Ben
I think the phone line holds 50 VDC constantly. Ringer is 90 VAC (RMS - probably 50 Hz or something like that).
This is from memory of over 10 years ago though. -

I have a similar recollection-time to pull out the telcom bible.____________________

I've been zapped by a phone at idle and it hurts. 50VDC isn't much but it'll give you a boot.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
