Hi,

I got a new reciever and getting into the surround sound for the first time.

My front left and right speaker boxes are about 8 inches wide and 14 inches tall but I don't know their model number or anything. They have a mid woofer in the middle and a tweeter centered above that says "dynamic balance". Then there is a hole in the lower left corner. We have had them since before 1995 but thats all I know.

My receiver is asking how big my speakers are and what the frequencies (hz) are. I don't even know what this is. I have a pretty new CS1 and two old M2 Series that I need specs for as well.

Any help?

Hi Stefan and Welcome to the Forum.

Home Theater can be a wonderful adventure, but it does take a little patience with learning what the settings are and how to use them.

Your reciever is trying to figure out how much of the sound to send to which speakers - and this is incredibly important when using a sub-woofer. Being that you didn't mention a sub-woofer, I am assuming that you are not using one at this time so that actually makes everything a little easier.

Not sure if these are the M2s you speak of but here are the specs:

Here are the specs for your CSI 1

I am not sure what your main speakers are - but they are probably the largest speakers you have and I am assuming they are your fronts. You want to set your front speakers to large so that all your bass goes to those speakers.

Set your rear and center channel to small.

Your rear speakers have a freq response of 70hz-25khz so set the crossover a little above 70hz - and all the bass for your rears will be sent to the front. Your center channel has a freq response of 55hz-25khz - so set the crossover a little bit above 55hz so that information below that frequency will also be sent to the front.

This is just your starting point. There are other settings as well, and all of this is so that your system can bring you the best sound possible with the room conditions and equipment that you have. Good luck and keep at it.

Can you post a picture of what your front speakers are? We could tell right away by looking at them.

Do you have a subwoofer? If so, set all speakers to small and crossover at 80hz. (that is a baseline, check 60 and 100 to see you like that better in your room with your speakers).

If not, set front speakers to large, all other speakers to small.

    Welcome to club polk,
