Does anyone know of a free (trustworthy) program online for extracting a pdf into excel. I have found a couple of programs, but all require payment of some kind. If you guys know of a good tool for converting a PDF to Excel, please do tell.

Thanks!

    Yeah, its called a secretary.

I haven't ran accros a good free tool. We use Monarch and it works very well. But, in this case it costs a little and "you get what you pay for".

I don't know of anything free, but we have PDF Maker here at work. If it's a one time deal, shoot me a pm and I will see what I can do.

PDF's won't have the formulas imbedded in the spreadsheet.

I have the full version of Acrobat and there's a tool in it that allows it to recognize text and numbers so you can copy and paste them. I've used that to copy and paste stuff into excel before.

I'm not sure if you have the full version but if you do that might work for you.

I think he wants to go the other way, from PDF to Excel, so that would be a moot point, no?

Thanks for the responses guys. Looks like I'm going to have to drop a few bucks, but it will be well worth it in the long-run.

Assimilated is correct, I just need to be able to sort/filter data that is currently in a static pdf file, so I'm not worried about formulas or anything.

Edbert: The offer is VERY much appreciated, but I can't send this file on to anyone besides the actual client. Thank you though.

I might have to drop some change on Monarch and be done with it. I've been able to find quite a few free programs for conversion from .xls to .pdf, but its amazing how few go the other way.

    Thanks for the input all!

When I do that, I copy the text and put it in note pad. Then save the txt file and import it into excel as a space deliminated file. Almost always works with not having to move any data at all.

As far as going the other way (files -> .PDF), I use Win2PDF. It installs as a printer on your computer. Anytime I need a .PDF, I just print the document and it is saved as a PDF.

Thanks Scott. Still haven't pulled the trigger on anything as I am trying to talk my dept director into buying us something instead of me spending my own $$.

For printing to pdf, I use cutepdf writer; does pretty much exactly what you're talking about. I'll have to give win2pdf a try and see how it compares.

FYI I have the full version of Acrobat and yes it does have copy table option but it is VERY sketchy... I've never really been able to get it working properly.. depends so much on how the table is set up in the first place I think.
