Well, that didn't take too long, now did it?
The move to separates really opened my eyes to what sound should be. My father always had great setups when i lived there, used a lot of Audio Concepts stuff, Hafler amps, lots of DIY speakers, but he always leaned towards the flat, not quite so warm sound. I guess he liked everything to sound completely dry, and was more concerned with imaging than anything, which he accomplished very well.
My brother came to visit me a few months ago, before i joined here, and he was pretty impressed with what i had accomplished just using recievers and some mediocre speakers, but still maintained that dad's sounded better. I had bass, dear god i had bass, but it wasn't tight like i wanted. My highs were fine, and it was a pretty decent setup for movies and parties. Point conceeded.
Then i joined this forum, grabbed my Monitor 11s and VS-25s pretty quickly. Relegated the monitors to the HT setup for now, and threw the VS-25s in my bedroom on the Pioneer Elite EX-500. Sounded great to me! Two channel is back! Imaging was great, everything was really crisp, my only complaint was that it wasn't too warm sounding, and reminded me a lot of my fathers 2 channel setup before he added his sub.
My confession?
I dropped $600 into my two-channel setup in the last week. $250 for the Adcom preamp/amp combo you see in my sig. $250 on the Klipsch RW-10D, and $100 on two sets of Sidewinder cables. This sounds AMAZING to my ears. Didn't lose any imaging, it's even clearer than before, the sound emcompasses the whole room, there is no fatigue in listening to it, and i don't have any real lumps within the freq range.
I will never go back to integrated..... consider me converted.
And my wallet hates you guys. And will even more once i start attacking my HT setup. The two-channel was just an experiment that turned into an obsession. Thanks to all.

You can't argue with those prices; and that's a nice little 2 channel rigs. Congrats!

You mention using recievers and then say you'll never go back to integrated. You do know that they are two different items, right?Political Correctness'.........defined

And... i can't spell.
"Revelation."
Thanks for the words! I think i'll be getting a DAC in the near future, and then leave the 2-channel as is. Then after that, i'll be taking a break on upgrades (so i say now), while i start slamming away at my other hobby, which i'll be posting pics up here on. Hopefully you guys find a 4-month transformation of a daily driven 92 Celica into an almost race-ready monster entertaining.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Congrats on the new found joy of seperates. I used to have a sony DA-5ES receiver and was very happy with it for 2 channel and home theater. I had a friend local to me here that conceded yes your receiver sounds nice but... it can sound much better, well to prove it he brought over a spare adcom GFP-555 and a GFA-555 amp and left it with me for the weekend, sneaky **** End result I was amazed at the difference in sound, there was so much more that that I was missing in clarity and detail imaging soundstage etc. It was like a blanket had been removed, and I havent looked back since.
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all
