Do any of you have any extra insurance coverage for your gear? If so, how much more do you pay?

I don't think that a standard home insurance policy would cover 30 grand worth of gear unless they know about and are collecting some sort of premium for it.

It depends on your policy. I was told that they will replace anything in my home, as long as it doesn't exceed the amount of our contents coverage, and I can prove I actually own it. So make sure your coverage is up to date.

Of course with a full security system, and living in a very safe town/neighborhood, I don't worry about it much as far as theft. If there is ever a fire, or some other complete loss to the home, I will have more important things to worry about than my gear. Things that can not be replaced at all.

Yeah, my insurance provider told me the same thing. Just as long as your stereo replacement cost is included in your total goods replacement costs you are okay. No special rider required specifically for audio gear.

Recheck with your insurance agent! That or call them up and say the your rig has been stolen and see what they have to say. You might be surprised!

I ended up getting an alarm system because of the fact that my carrier will NOT cover my stereo gear. Yes, I have replacement value for ALL things in my house. Turns out that they cover musical instruments and computers, but stereo gear is NOT covered. I asked them "what if I had a guitar hooked up to the rig and the rig is hooked up to the computer for a frequency analysis/sweep?". They told me that it is still not covered.

Last year I had a lightning strike, right? Well it knocked out a couple of components. Since the components that JUST got back from being refurbed [$300.00 each plus $80 for shipping] about three weeks prior were vintage, that they would only give me a "depreciated value" and that I would have to have the units checked out by an authorized service shop [$85.00 minimum per unit out of MY pocket]. The "depreciated" value was less than the cost to have the units checked out..........even though the units were selling on Flea-Prey for 4-600 dollars a piece all F'n day long.:mad::mad:

Try this! You think you have coverage? Call and tell them that your rig is stolen or a lightning strike just hit and wiped it all out. The answer given will answer your question as to whether or not you have coverage. Until then, don't assume or believe what "they" say!!!

    You have now been warned!

Damn Tom sorry to hear that man. I do have my gear covered and my agent knows me well and my gear. I took pics of all my gear, saved reciepts and emails regarding the deals, noted new cost/replacement values and was told I'm covered. The only thing thats NOT covered is the stereo in my truck. My coverage will only replace with factory replacement from the dealer. This is covered thru my homeowner's policy. My truck's policy doesn't cover the replacement of aftermarket either. Only factory/dealer replacement. Homeowner's policy does cover things like my tools, laptop, cameras and so on.

BTW...my agent is an audio nut too.

I need your contact information for your agent, something bad! Tired of dealing with folks that don't understand. [undisclosed amount----Justin, we need the damn edit feature back!] in gear is NOT something to not have covered!
