Congratulations! Try surfing the subwoofer area in this forum for tons of opinions. My personal opinion is that if you are listening to music most, then get a Velodyne or Martin Logan (although neither are terribly cheap). If you are into home theater, then go to http://www.svsound.com and get an SVS sub. Better yet, get two subs and enjoy true bliss.

Thanks for the link and responding.WOW those are nice subs.So now im thinking maybe a combo of

    CS1 center
    Monitor 40 fronts
    Monitor 30 surrounds
    SVS PB10-NSD

    OR

    CS2 center
    monitor 40 fronts
    monitor 40 surrounds
    SVS PB10-NSD

Im on a tight budget so looking for good performance at affordable price.

I would probably go with the CS-2 if you are watching a lot of movies.

Woah that's crazy... I am planning on getting some Polk Speakers around Christmas, i also am getting some Monitor 40's(Bi-amped) as mains, CS1 center, and Monitor 30's as surrounds. And I am using an Onkyo 606(Not quite the same but close lol) If you have a smaller room, I would recommend the HSU STF-1. That's what I plan on getting later on down the road. And the 706 should be able to easily power anything you throw at it. Polks are generally pretty efficient.

Vid, since your into HT more my recommendation would be to go 2.1 with your setup for now. You have a great receiver to start since its HDMI 1.3a with preouts. You said you will eventually goto 7.1 later on. So for the time being spend all of the money on a pair of fronts + a sub.

A pair of RTiA7's + the SVS sub would be a GREAT start! Thats the bulk of your cost anyhow. That way, the next time your ready to upgrade, you just add your center. Then a pair of surrounds and your set! In the long run this would be, in my opinion, the way to go! Hell, the pair of RTiA7's might just beat out the entire monitor + cs2 setup to begin with for close to the same cost!

Hehe no problem;) My this is my bedroom setup and my room is 10x12(yeah it's small) so it's too small for a 7.1 setup so I'm just going to Bi-amp the Monitor 40's. And don't worry about your tv. Sony made some great CRTs back in the day. We've still got an old 32'' Trinitron in our bonus room. I have a 32'' Vizio LCD(VX32L) in my bedroom and it's a great tv. It's 720P/1080i and I got it for $650 from CC. Great tv for the money.

Good luck with your setup :)

I may need a lesson in Bi-amping though.Dont know much about it.It seems like everyone is doing it.Should have some Faqs on AVS somewhere for this.

If your using a 7.1 receiver(i'm guessing you are seeing as how you said you were getting the 706) it's really easy to bi-amp speakers. You can just use the outputs for the rear surrounds for bi-amping the main speakers. You just have to go to the speaker setup menu on the receiver and set it from "normal" to "bi-amp" That's what I'm going to be doing with my Onkyo 606.

If you get a good amp, you won't have any need to bi-amp with your receiver.

My biggest piece of advice is to not dive in head first into this hobby unless you have a spare $5k on hand. You will get a taste of a good sounding system and want to immediately upgrade. It will cost you more money that way. Your best route is to spend a good piece of change up front on your front/main speakers and upgrade the rest of your system from there. The quick fix is always the worst fix. In this case it would be to get your full 5.1 or 7.1 and having 5 or 7 mediocre speakers in your setup.

Now if this were to be a 1 time only endeavor, then by all means getting a quick fix would suffice. What exactly is your budget for now?

I would say right now my budget would be around $2,000-$2,500.I have been checking out the Monitor 60 and 70 floor standing speakers.Thinking of going with one those for my fronts instead. All these speakers are not as expensive as they used to be.Prices have dropped.

I just got my new Onkyo TX RS 606 and i went with the TSi 200 for the front. I plain on bi amping them as the 606 is a 7.1 and my room is to small for that so i'll only be going 5.1. For the center i got a CSi 3. The speakers are due to come in this tuesday. I ordered them from JR.com all for $414. I plain on eventually using the TSis as surrounds once i have a larger room and upgrading to a a pair of floorstanding speakers for the front. Good luck with your set up.

IMO, I think an SVS sub is too much for that setup. I'm not saying your speakers are lacking, but you're taking entry level speakers and pairing them with a monster sub, which if you have to dial down to blend with your speakers means you aren't going to get the full benefit of the sub so why buy it? (unless the plan is to upgrade front stage down the line......)

Thanks for the reply brettw22.I sent an email to SVS and this is what they had to say. Here is the conversation.

Hi,i hear alot of GREAT things about the PB10-NSD subwoofer.I plan on buying it VERY SOON (wont be discontinued anytime soon i hope) and i would like to know if it would be a good fit for my speakers.I just purchased the Polk Audio Monitor 60 floor standing speakers,Monitor 40 surrounds and CS2 center speaker.I currently have the Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver.I am upgrading from my old polk RM6700 sats and PSW350 sub.Thank you

Thanks for contacting SVS, and for considering the PB10-NSD for your system. Nope, we won’t be discontinuing the PB10 any time soon, it's the best-performing sub anywhere near its price…until you get up to the PB12-NSD, that is. ;)
The PB10-NSD will work perfectly well with those speakers, and be a rather noticeable step up from the PSM350, for sure. It's got a very flat and extended top end, and so will have no problem with an 80-100hz crossover.
What size room is your system in, and how loud do you like to listen? Thanks again for your note. We appreciate the opportunity to earn your business, and look forward to hearing from you further.

Wont be discontinued anytime soon, thats great to hear. Thanks for responding.I live in an apartment so I would say my livingroom is around the area of 16ft x 10ft,if that makes sense.I sit about 7 feet from the TV.I like to play my system pretty loud.I have the Onkyo set to absolute with volume usually in the high 50s,sometimes low 60s.

The PB10-NSD will certainly be able to get to get pretty loud (~107dB peaks) in that room, and stay deep and clean while doing it. If you haven't experienced clean, SVS-style deep bass at high levels, you're in for a treat!
Sit the PB10 in a front corner, let the Audyssey MultEQ XT auto-calibration in your TX-SR706 work its magic, sit back, and enjoy

He doesnt seem to think so.you think 300 watt sub to much for the setup?

Dude.... Get the SVS. You'll be glad you did. If you watch a lot of movies you'll love it.

I also don't see why the sub wouldn't be on par with the speakers? Isn't that there bottom of line sub? Its not like hes getting the Ultra13 or something.

I had four Rti4's and a Csi3 paired with a SVS 20 - 31 PC Plus sub. And it was amazing!

    I say go for it.

    Cheers

Why would he have to dial down the subwoofer to blend? I wouldn't call the PB10 a monster subwoofer since it's the entry level SVS.

A sub can have the most dramatic effect on an HT rig. Competent speakers with a great sub will sound much better than with an entry level sub. The SVS will keep you happy through a series of speaker upgrades...go for it.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B

Just a pointer on the SVS PB-10 and PB-12 - they do not have speaker level inputs - only RCA/Line Level.

I run my speakers and sub the "polk" way cuz I like to listen to music using yamaha's "pure direct" mode and preferred not to have my sub as just a 'brick' when going old school 2-channel mode. Because of that I use the speaker level config.

Ah well...so much for considering the SVS PB-10. :(

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.
