Question on where to locate speakers in room

Just purchased a set of the RM 6750s and can't wait to hook them up. I've been checking out the Polk Web site for guidance on where to locate my speakers, but most of the guidance I've read seems to assume that the tv is located along a wall, rather than in the corner of the room (which is the set up I'm going with). Consequently, are there any special considerations for where to locate the satellites (front and back) when the listener and the tv are situated at an angle to all the walls within the room?

Not sure if my description is clear, so let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Gracias

    First welcome to club Polk.
Second you should have a diagram that came with the speakers on location. Its easier to look at the pics than try to explain it.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Thanks for the response, Ben. I did see the diagram, but just covering my bases since most of the documentation I've seen so far assumes the walls are all at right angles or parallel to the viewer and location of the tv. In this caes, it sounds as if there are no special considerations, so thanks for setting this newbie straight. :)

Two channel can get pretty precise with locating speakers. HT is more forgiving. Locating your speakers in the proper place according to the diagram is the start. Last night I was very tired so I didn't get too involved with the tuning of the locations. You will want to experiment with moving them closer, and further to the walls, and setting up the toe in. Others will chime in, and help. I am too tired to give comprehensible advice on this at the moment.

    Also welcome Swede.

I would start with the "standard placement" per the diagram like Ben was saying. Then start up a movie or something, and have a friend/family help you with adjusting the placement. Sit in your sweet spot and have them adjust the speakers one-by-one to your sonic likings. After this, recalibrate with an SPL meter so that the speakers have matched output again. Finally, sit and listen to the movie and record your thoughts about how it sounds on a pad of paper. Repeat this process as many time as you want using the listening notes your wrote yourself until you feel satisfied with the sound.

Swede: would like to help, but can mainly commiserate (I've got my setup at an inside corner - diagonally running to couch at outside corner (one leg of which has windows) -- AND the room has cathedral ceilings.

Finding pics for such is futile. But read adjacent print concepts remain the same...

The only way I've found to approach awkward layout... is to focus on the fronts, put them (and center) in a parallel line (or parallel concave curve) to your seating - with the fronts equidistant to your center. Now 'toe in' the fronts. (there should be nothing too close to them to cause reflected sound - and leave space between for a sub).

Now listen to some stereo music, and other 2 channel material. make minor adjustments if neccessary till you get 'a wall of sound' (you'll think there's sound coming from the center speaker... )

Assuming your happy up to this point - position you surrounds as close to standard pics as possible -- but don't sweat it, after the first few days of enjoying fancy effects, the reality is that 90% of your listening (and enjoyment) will come from fronts and center (and proper balancing with sub)

You didn't mention if your reciever had audysses (or other equalization software) if it does, run it -- this can be godsend for non-standard enviorments.

PS the only downside of not having a TV on a wall, is finding a spot for the center speaker. Just try make sure your speakers aren't close to walls.

    Good luck

McLoki: GREAT find - one of the rare pics that handled non-ideal layouts.
