Two part question here.

I need help in identifying my midwoofer series. No model # I can find.
Second, I thought one of these was bad because it was distorting under a little more than average volume power. I pulled these out and they feel fine. No noticable rubbing. Will the polyswitches and caps on the crossovers cause these to distort to such noticable levels? Thank you.

looks like a 6502... you are describing the exact same issue i am having with my Polk Model 10Bs... one of the two mid-woofers distorts readily when driven moderately loud but the other seems fine. It only distorts when being driven by my 150wpc receiver. seems fine when driven by lesser powered amps... how much power are driving the speakers with?

I drive them with a 25wpc EL86 Lafayette integrated with Mullards throughout. Tubes and amp are 100% AOK.
I just switched the midwoofs to the other cabinets and the midwoof I thought was bad is working fine in the other cabinet. The one I thought was good is acting up in the opposite cabinet.
Definitely a crossover problem. Crap! I stripped out a good pair of speakers because of a couple bucks worth of caps and polyswitches.
    Thanks, hb1

Time for new caps, and do the resistors while you are at it.

    Yep,

MW6500 look under the Polk Audio logo on the label. You can see it says "MW6500". Not sure if Polk makes a direct replacement. Best to call CS and see what they suggest.

    You can read too :p
I have old 6500's that would match well. I think Polk is shipping 6503's as the closest replacement.

    Thank you for the info.

My problem followed the cabinet. Problem is in the crossover apparently. After switching woofs from cabinet to cabinet the same issue stayed in the same cabinet.

I guess when i am done refinishing the cabinets I will need to do some thorough testing to determine the extent of the problem...
