Website Hosting Recommendations

I'm looking for an inexpensive yet stable host to setup a basic e-commerce site. I've looked at godaddy.com but am not really convinced that they are my best option. I would prefer to use a host that has building tools available on the site, as it has been a long long time since I've built a site.

Do any of you IT guys out there have any recommendations?

Thanks!
Dave

Well both 1and1 and inmotion seem like pretty decent hosts. I like the hosting features of inmotion a little better, but their merchant account seems to be a little more expensive than 1and1.

Who do you use as your merchant Ben?

Is it complicated to use 3rd party merchant?

Is it possible to setup your site so that people don't have to register and login to purchase something?

I didn't know you did. I'll have to talk to my buddy on that one. It certainly wasn't suposed to be that way. My friend is actually who is doing the web design, and hosting. I can hook you up with him if you want. No other companies that I have dealt with. I used to be into computer repair, and networking (I owned the company), and I would hear those stories quit a bit. 1and1 has great tech support, but there billing department is a PIA. Just make sure you keep paid up, and its real smooth sailing. I messed up, and changed bank accounts, and didn't fix my billing with 1and1 so they were pretty uptight. The IT guys are great. Oh yeah real cheap too.

I use http://www.angryhosting.com for quite a few sites.

They are stable and fast but you gotta know what you are doing because the service is very basic. But you can get a decent amount of bandwidth for a few dollars a month.

We all are talking about host if but if you like to move host because.... It's best to registrar your site with Net-Solutions doing so you can switch host at a drop of a hat. It's a different story if a host registered your site name, they can hold you up when switching.

    Angry Hosting cheap. ;)

Yeah and it's honestly an exception to the rule "you get what you pay for". Service is beyond what alot of other places offer just, like I said, it's not for novices 'cause they don't have a live help line. That's why prices are so cheap. They cater alot to webmasters looking to manage multiple sites from a single account. I'm running 7 sites with them and the only unscheduled down time I have is when AT&T drops a digital trunk in the midwest somewhere.

Oh and I use godaddy.com for domain name registration but angryhosting.com will do it too.

Well I tell you price has something to due with it, but it doesn't tell the whole story as you know.

I started with Yahoo, ok email setup sucks IMHO then they started with a very slow website.

Switched to Startlogic ok at first then they too started with a very slow website. Setting up Emails where a dream over Yahoo. Was only with them for 7 days due to the website slowness issue. Very cheap as I believe it was $35 for a year, but couldn't live with them.

Then switched to InMotion Email are also a dream, price was $9 a month paid yearly. Sweet over Yahoo which if I remember right was $11 a month. Always there with the tech support one two rings that's all American the guy which answer phone is the tech no transfer nothing. For the money I give it my "Best Bang for Buck" award.

FWIW, I use this guy as well... thanks again, Ben ;).

Very reasonable fees, not one episode of down time in almost a year, and he's always around if you have any questions. Hearty recommendation.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
