Thinking of buying a pair for 100 bucks, includes stands and original boxes. Is this a good price? Very good condition according to the owner.

    yes that is a good price.. as long as the drivers all work and the cabs are in good condition.

    Go for it That is a good prices with stands. Make sure the mids move in and out freely and the the passive moved in and out freely. I love mine.

    Thanks for the thumbs up guys. I talked to the owner over the phone and he's willing to drop the price to 80 bucks. He's the original owner. Speakers have the stands and he still has the original boxes too. I'll be driving over to his house to check them out in about an hour from now.

    Just got home with the speakers, however, the stands are not the originals :( but for 80 bucks they are in very good condition and they sound good. Here is the link to the ad http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/773318919.html that has a photo. I'll post pics soon.
    Also, the binding post plastic nuts are missing. Could anyone tell me which one is positive and which is negative? Thanks.

    Do they have tweeter protection fuses on the terminal cup? Goldish or silverish Polk logo's on the grill?

    No fuses on the terminal cups. Logos are gold. I'll check out that thread. Thanks.

    Looks like gold Polk emblems. Those are later 5B's which should have the poly switch instead of a fuse.

    NOTE MY 5B's are the slightly earlier version with the silver Polk emblems and the tweeter fuse but staring at the back of the speaker (the speaker in front of me) the POS (red) is on the left.

    You really can't do any damage. The speakers will be out of phase and the bass will be anemic if you hook them up backwards. Test them that way with some bassy material. Switching the connections (while the amp is off) a few times you should notice a big difference in bass output.

    That's for sure. My SDA 2's have the red post on the left and the 1.2 TL's the red terminal on the left. But the monitor 50's the red terminal is on the right.

    Sure enuff. They are nice sounding little speakers. I'm really glad I bought them ...and the price wasn't too bad either.

    Yes. I was surprised at how good they sound....but wait, they're Polks, of course they're gonna sound great.

    "Those stands are probably a little to high." That's exactly what I thought as soon as I put them on the stands. I'm gonna trim down the stands today. BTW, I did notice that the bass was less so after I put them on the stands.
