Hello

Am getting closer to moving over the farm house and will be also moving over to high def. I already have a ps3 and will be getting HD directv. Am still mulling over the tv's, seems like whenever I find one they are either discontinued or another model comes along.....

Am currently looking at this one:

And was wondering what you guys thought of this new 120 hz refresh rate and if any of you had one? Its called motionflow on the Sony's, heres a little video about it too, just click on motionflow explained over on the left hand side.

I'm going to get two tv's whatever they wind up to be, one for the basement family room and the other one for our bedroom. Our viewing distance will be around 8 to 10 feet, so around the 40 to 42 inch range should be about right.

Will be doing some gaming on the family room tv, nothing major, mostly rpg's, and of course blue ray dvd's

Thanks

I personally don't care for the 120hz TV's I've seen with any kind of motion control and I haven't seen any that weren't running some kind of motion control, but I'm sure it can be disabled somehow. Don't get me wrong they produce a beautiful picture and look great with sports and I guess they would do a great job with video games as well but, for movies, everything looks like its running at 2x speed, the motion looks very jerky, I don't know how else to explain it, not smooth at all, and the ones I've looked at have all had HD sources either HD DVD or Blu-ray, but like I said they produce an amazing picture and I think they would be hard to beat in terms of PQ, but the jerky motion would be a deal breaker for me, IMHO.

If you haven't already I would go down to Circuit City or Best buy and watch a 120hz TV running a Blu-ray movie, the jerky motion may not be something that you're affected by. Good luck with your search.

I bought the Sony 40V4100 yesterday for an awesome price, nice pq and excellent bang for buck screen. I bought two of them at the price of 1071 bucks each, spent another 119 bucks per wall mount. I'll mount one in bedroom, one in dining room. Off topic I know but long story short as Millerman said you dont really need the 120HZ unless you really like it and it can be disabled in the TV menu. Check out Sony Bravia V and W Series also.

I would suggest demoing them also. I like the look of them as I thought it was smooth and more natural. However, they are more expensive so that will be a purchasing factor. The PQ with upconversion DVD and BluRay on the 120hz looks great. I have noticed some jerky video too, but all sub-par PQ seems to have more to do with filming quality than hardware quality IMO.

Just keep in mind when you demo them. The signal it being split many times over all tv's in the store so you probably are not going to get the best picture to demo.
