Need advice on value of 1.2TL's

I am currently negotiating with someone for a pair of 1.2TL's. I have not seen the speakers yet in person, but the seller claims they are in perfect shape with no scratches or dings or anything, interconnect cable is there and manual included (not that this matters, but in my experience people who save every last piece tend to take good care of their stuff, so it can be an indicator of condition).

I am trying to avoid getting overly emotional about what's been my dream speaker since I was a 20 yo and couldn't come close to affording them!!!! :)

How much should I be willing to pay for these, assuming the condition is what the seller claims? I notice lately that these are not selling on eBay, most of the auctions end with no bids or "reserve not met".

Don't take what you have seen on ebay recently as the state of the market for those speakers...if you read a few of the threads here on the forum you will see for yourself as to why.

But as for your price range....some get them for killer deals and some seem to overpay a bit....the window being in the 1,000 to 2,000 dollar range. Ones in bad shape towards the lower end and pristine examples towards the top of that range. Good luck

There's a very good reason why the ones on Ebay haven't sold. It's a long story, but the short version has to do with the seller being less than honorable.

Anyway, the price range varies wildly. Anywhere from under a grand to over 3.

I figured it the lack of sales was because of the economy tightening, and the fact that sales are typically restricted to local pickup only on these.

But that said, what would YOU personally pay for a pair of these, assuming all stock parts, no mods and excellent condition?

I think the better question is, what does he want for them?

I have seen pics. They look immaculate in them, but we know digital pics don't always show everything.

His opening price when he had them on eBay was $1500. There were no bids.

Who was the seller, got a link?

$1500.00 is a decent price. The reason I ask who the seller was is that there has been some questionable behavior by at least one recently.

Haha no not in Canada, I'm in the Phoenix, AZ area.

The seller is out here, is this the one with the questionable behavior? This guy has 100% positive feedback and a lot of sales.

Don't worry. That's not the seller.

Yeah, not the seller in question. Was your local seller the guy offering an amp and something else with the speakers?

Glad to hear it. No, just the 1.2's by themselves. I noticed in his feedback people said "item was as described" so that's encouraging. I think $1500 is a good deal, but I also see that he pulled the auction after a day, and I don't really know why. Hopefully it's not because he decided he was asking too little... I'd pay $1500 in a heartbeat for 1.2TL's in EC.

I went and looked at yours earlier, Las. You are a madman (and I mean that in an awe-inspired way)! DAMN those speakers looked good afterwards!

What model are those Carver amps? It looks similar to my TFM-25. Am I going to want a 2nd one if I get 1.2's?

Las, when you upgrade, talk to me about the TFM-35's, I might take 'em off your hands if you're looking to sell them off.

BTW, the seller is having 2nd thoughts about selling the 1.2TL's that started this thread, knowing he might not ever find a set like them again (he swears they are in absolutely perfect shape). He says he'll contact me if he decides to sell, if I can wait a few weeks. That explains why he pulled the auction down from eBay after an hour.... DAMN I wish I'd seen it within that hour!
