Please tell me what you think

I didn't get even one response from my first post here, so maybe I will get lucky this time.

I am going to have a 3.1 speaker set to go with my Denon 3808CI. I will add more later if I think I need it. I have just purchased:

*RTiA1's-fronts
*CSiA4-center
*PSW110-subwoofer

I know that the front and center speakers will be alright together, but I am starting to wonder if I chose well on my subwoofer. I did not get them in yet, and can exhange it I'm sure for something that will work together. I got them all in cherry, so they will look beautiful together I know. I really need someone who's experienced here to step up and tell me if this will be alright. Thanks,

How big is your room? Will it be used mostly for HT or do you like to listen to a lot of music?

Couple variables to consider....

Hi teppy and welcome to the club.

I'm not in a position to tell you what is right or wrong. What I can suggest is a few pointers.

Have you listened to any of the speakers? Do they sound right to YOUR ears? Even if they are bargain, if they don't sound right, they are not a bargain in the long run. The same thinking goes with the sub.

If you get the chance, listen to several sets of speakers, you will find a pair that is most pleasing to you. Some may sound muffled, some piercing and just like Goldilocks, some are just right. Another thing to consider is that the speakers may not sound the same when you get them home. Electronics, furniture, positioning and the speakers being new all have an impact on the sound.

There are very few "written in stone" rules in audio. Your ears and personal likes and dislikes will be the best guide. There are things you can tweak and change to tailor the sound but until you listen and have a starting point, not many people are going to make suggestions.

I've already ordered them. My concern was after reading a bit about "timbre matching," I started to question my choice of subwoofer. My room is large, 22x20. I am not by any means an audiophile, but I do live music and for it to sound clear and crisp. I am not crazy or have a need for alot of boomy bass that will rattle my walls. I mostly listen to music outside by pool or on my patio area. I just bought a pair of axiom outdoor speakers for zone 2. I like the way they sound considering that outside is a large room. I may add more later. I am loving my Denon 3808 reciever and the fact that its networked to my home computers to give me access to my music. I'm sure that these Polk speakers will be great to my ears considering that we have not enjoyed music in problably more than 15 years in our home with anything other than my computer speakers. I know, its sad but true. We will use them for movies sometimes, or I may even decide to run them all the time when the tv is on. I will use them for listening to music too when we have people over also. I like to have music outside and inside for get togethers. Thanks for for the replies this time and for the welcome.

I think you will be more than happy with the sub you chose. If you listen to a lot of music, I would stick with a 10 inch. Bass is going to be tight and more accurate (in that price range) vs a 12 inch.

The other sub I would recommend would be the PSW404, however it's a little bit more $.

With either sub, I would set your crossover just above 60 hz. The RTIA1's will take care of the rest.

OK, so i guess I will have that option of setting a crossover when I do my setup. My Denon has an auto setup with audyssey. I'm not sure what that is, but I will find out soon. It has a little microphone that I'm supposed to go around to differnent locations in my room to let it calibrate. Sounds fun.

One other bit of information with regards to timbre matching. When it comes to subs you don't have to worry about it. This term mostly refers to the tweeter portion of a speaker. When it comes to subs everyone has their own opinion. For your stated listening preference I think your combination will work great.

Thanks, I feel really good now about my speakers and can't wait for them to come in. When I bought the Denon a couple of weeks ago, it was mainly to have music outside. I have a pair of old 20 year old bose that we connected to the Denon for now inside. Within a few hours they were just destroyed. I think just music playing out of them was all it took. They are dryrotted on the part that goes around the tweeter and speaker. I noticed this when I took the grills off the clean them. they have been just sitting for years now. I'm sure that I will be blown away by how these are going to sound.

I think you will need a lot more sub to fill that room; and I don't mean fill with "boom", but with real bass. What normally happens when you buy a sub smaller than it should, you tend to raise the output, and that is what creates the "boom".

Look into the new line of Polk DSW subs, SVS, etc. Do a search and you'll find lots of info.

If this sub doesn't work, i will upgrade later maybe. for now, I'm not going to be too picky, like i said, i'm just glad to be finally getting something. its way past time.

The truth is you can always add additional subs as well. Most of us run dual subs anyway.

When most of you are saying "bigger," what are you saying? Bigger amp, bigger sub.......

Are you saying that you will use your TV speakers the rest of the time?
