so if that passes, i wonder if i can call an at&t store in ca and get it cancelled. will it have the same effect on satellite tv as well?

if it does pass, i see higher rates in the future...as if it wasnt high enough already.

It's a contract entered into by two parties knowingly.
What drug is this judge using?

... I was a Cellular One customer and had signed yet another two year contract, (basically to get a new phone) and then AT&T bought them out. I already had a package for Dish, DSL and home phone all on one bill. Now the bill I receive for the cell phones is from AT&T. Well, I asked them to put it all on the same bill and they said I'd have to sign ANOTHER two year contract..?
What's up with that BS? Does this mean the contract I signed with Cell One is null and void since they were bought out by AT&T? They really piss me off.

This ruling means nothing. They'll get their fee, one way or another.

On another note, I wish Verizon had a "cheap-****" plan for people like me that only use the thing once or twice a month....

My cellphone will disappear 2 seconds after my company stop paying for it.
They want it on my person 24/7. My guess is the latest management
wants the same thing, but on my nickel. They are in for a surprize.

It doesn't surprise me, coming from California and all.

No offense to you who live out there, but they got some crazy people in the legal system.

What's a cell phone - is that the phone you use in jail? :p

To me this a moot point. They have always been uncollectible so now the public has finally been informed of the truth.

You sign a contract, and are assuaged a fee (which you are told of beforehand) for breaking said contract. Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Phone companies offer discounts on hardware to get you to sign a contract which will guarantee them revenue. You then want to turn around and take the phone that you got based on a promise that you want to break, and not be punished?

So surprising this came from California.

(I know I'm a couple days late on this, I've been out of town.)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

    Don't you know it. ;)

A Judge doesn't realize a $0 to $100 phone can't be built for $0 to $100 and the cost is coming from where? I'm sorry he's no Judge which should be one.

Do you know that's what America consumer wants? A cheap phone with a higher monthly?

Did you know Japan consumer expects a higher priced phone with a lower monthly?

I'd rather have the phone I already have, with a lower monthly.

Yup, all this means is the US will go to the same model as the rest of the world: $200-$800 phones.
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

Which would also mean lower monthly payment as mentioned.
