Matching Tweeters?

My system has 3 different speakers - Monitor 10s, SDA-CRS, and a CS-245 Center.
When making mods to these speakers - does it make sense to install the same tweeter (RDO198 a good choice?) in all 5 speakers? I thought of this last night and it seemed like a logical course of action.
Does anyone know which tweeter is in the center channel CS-245?
Thanks everyone who contributes to this forum - for both entertainment and information - although my productivity at work suffers, my HT has never sounded better.

I'm not familiar with your center, but if you can upgrade the others, the 198 is a nice tweeter. Are the CRS's pin/blade?
Sticking with the same tweeter for all your speakers will help insure they're all timbre matched and will make TV and movies more realistic."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
Your 10's and CRS+ use the SL2000 tweeter, the replacement is the RD0194-1. Unless you modify the crossovers, you can't use the RD0198-1. The center uses an entirely different tweeter series, so it's not going to really match, no matter what you do.Political Correctness'.........defined

I just became aware that your CRS+ are blade/blade, so you can't mod the crossover to use the RD0198-1 anyway.Political Correctness'.........defined

As stated, you already have almost all SL2000 gear. You could find a single SL2000 vintage Polk for a different center, or you could frankenpolk one from components off of ebay. Either way would be a good match.

I was planning on upgrading the cross-overs on the vintage polks with the advice posted in this form - I was just waiting for winter to hunker down in the project room.........but I thought I would get all the needed supplies this fall.
I am very happy with the sound of my setup now - but posts on this forum peaked my curiousity enough to try the mods.
How will the RDO 194-1 tweeter change the sound currently eminating from the SL2000?
The center channel is the weak link - is there a center channel that uses the RDO-194-1 tweeter out there? -
I feel the sound of the RDO is tamer than the SL2000. It sounds warm and is not as bright as the SL2000 in a good way. I feel my ears don't fatigue as they did with the SL2000.
I don't think there was ever a center that used the SL2000. Some people who use big SDAs for HT use CRSs as their center, so I could suggest that. -
The RD0194-1 is much smoother, less bright and less in your face.
They are no centers that use the SL2000, but Zingo made a good suggestion.Political Correctness'.........defined

you guys rock.........it is good to know that all the tweeters in my mains and surrounds are the same - I wasn't sure - I saw in the speaker forum the post about phantom centers - I may try that also as it is easy to do........
if there is a center that uses an RDO 194-1 - i may try moding everything to match - I do like the frankenpolk idea .....so many decisions...."smoother" is the descriptive term I was looking for........ -
Any Polk speaker that uses the SL2000 can use the RD0194-1. However, there never was a center designed to use the SL2000/RD0-194-1. Those speakers were made before HT came around. You know, back when music was king.Political Correctness'.........defined

You could go phantom, a few others and I have successfully."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

In looking at my SDA-CRS - it has a silver tweeter - the monitor 10s tweeters are black - are they still both SL2000?
Also - I was wondering if you could turn a monitor 10 into an SDA-CRS style speaker using a crossover and installing the interconnect outlet in the back.....it seems that with the same drivers and tweeters, this would be a cool frankenpolk mod to make....... -
The tweeter in your M10 is a Peerless, not SL2000 like in your CRS's."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
-
Thanks - I kinda thought it wasn't an SL2000 - can you still upgrade to the RDO194?
-
Most people leave the Peerless tweeters alone. I'm sure you still could if you wanted to, but I would examine the crossover differences between a peerless M10 and a SL2000 M10, to see if anything may need to be changed."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I see now that this is a peerless tweeter with the 1/16"dia hole in the center - is this believed to be the best tweeter to use in the M10? - and does that mean that these M10s were one of Polks first generation?
SDA speakers love the cast iron........ -
Yes, the Peerless is a great tweeter....I wouldn't mess with it unless they are broken. It does make your M10's of the elder generation (although I'm not as up to speed on which are which as others here)
As far as matching tweeters.....for HT, it's not something that I would get all wrapped around the axle over, to be honest.

S/N on back of my speakers is 10A 851xx. Tweeters are black, have a tiny hole in the center of the soft dome, and say nothing else on them.
How do I know which tweeter these are? Peerless, SL2000, ???

Peerless. Well, one of them is not tweeting after 21 years, and it ain't the fuse. I'm totally new to this forum, and have never even thought about cracking the box on these speakers, but looks like I've to to replace the tweeters. I've read a lot of posts about upgrading capacitors when you do the tweeter replacement - is there a link to a post on this site with instructions on how to do it? Also, do you reckon the RD0-194-1's will drop in as Peerless replacements like they do for the SL200's
Thanks from the new guy
Scott -
The RDO replacements may not be a dropin replacement as the hole in the cabinet is smaller for the Peerless tweeter.
I would check out some of the upgrade threads from the past for what you need....http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/search.php?searchid=2339060HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable
