Anyone else here in SoCal feel the earthquake?

Not nearly as bad as some that I have experienced in Taiwan, but it will always give that jittery feeling for a few moments.

Yep, 5.8 in Chino Hills. I'm in HB and it rolled pretty good.

One of the few times I'm glad to be living in Texas. Granted it's a hundred and sixty five degrees here, but it's nice to always be able to stand on stable ground...

    Hope everyone's ok out there

No ground is stable, no where on this planet.

Uh, while you may be correct 'technically' - the ground here is pretty damn stable.

FWIW, I hate Texas for a whole bunch of other reasons, I'm just glad that the ground shaking violently isn't one of them.

That was me - testing my new subwoofer setup! :D

Just kidding - yup - felt it down here in San Diego, too - small pre-shock - then a nice jolt.

Cell phones when down instantly and are still out, one reason why it is good to have a land line.

Good point, we haven't had a landline in years and if cell service went out here we'd be screwed.

Felt it, my first one. I'm in San Diego to do a project install and it felt pretty cool, just like in my house when the subwoofer does it job.

why i live in florida so we can at least see the hurricanes coming.

My first earthquake was by far the scariest experience of my life thusfar, for precisely the reason that Spasticpitbull outlined above. I had never experienced one before and thus had no idea what it might feel like. It was Sept. 21, 1999, and I had been living in Taipei, Taiwan about 1 month. That quake, measuring 7.1, hit at about 1:45am. Getting woken up in the dark by a building shaking violently up and down (my apartment was on the 5th floor) is not a pleasant experience, because a) I was totally disorientated from being asleep, b) I'd never experienced anything like that before, had no idea of what was going on and how it would end and c) the big quakes tend to start off small and then get bigger and bigger over what seems like eternity (though its really only about 1-2 minutes). You just don't know how big its going it get before it starts to taper off.

Utterly helpless is the best way I can describe the feeling.

Virtually every other quake since then (and there were several others in Taiwan) has seemed like kids play to me. I think once you've experienced a big one you start to develop a thick skin, though the jittery feeling definately comes back at a measured level.

Well, friends and neighbors to my west, ya'll won't be see'n my skinny butt out your way. :(. danger boy and I just had this conversation the other night, he begged, he cajoeled, made me promise I'd go to CA, LA specifically.

Baahstid! I'm not going, not no way, not no how. I get anxiety attacks just whatching that s**t on TV, yes, I was in the Big One in Mex way back, caught the first charter outta there.

I'm glad no one was hurt.
AL, I'm not coming up to WA to see you either, I get bad vibes about up there too. I think a huge one is just around the corner up in the Pacific NW. I'm not talking about volcanic quakes, I'm talking the 3 different plates converging and diving up there, I'm a scare monger, look up the projections, scary stuff, I get these gut feelings sometimes, they're spot on 90% of the time, I hope to God this one I've had about WA,OR,BC Canada is in the 10% off range. I've got lot's of friends in the Portland, Seattle, Victoria corridor. Ya'll take care,

Better look down and make sure your not stepping on a fire ant mound! Boy howdy I miss Austin sometimes.

The ground only shook here in Carlsbad for 2 or 3 seconds. Still gnarly

There was a report on one of the morning shows, today, that stated that there is a 99.7% chance that "THE BIG ONE" will hit California/west coast within the next 30 years. I'd say that's a pretty good early warning.:p
