no more heart cloggin monte cristo's I guess.

I went to a Bennigan's in Baltimore and it was by far the worst service I'd ever seen. There were no hostesses as the front and after hunting down a waitress for 10 minutes we were finally put in a table in a far corner. After waiting at the table for 20 minutes with absolutely no one coming to the table we just walked out. Every other one I've been was ok though.

I remember Bennigans from the early '80s and Steak & Ale from the '70s but there hasn't been one of either in this area in years. I didn't know they were still around. Restaurants definitely have a "shelf life". After a time they just lose their customers to the "next new thing". It is the nature of the business.

    Yuppers they were...........

On July 29, 2008, hundreds of Steak and Ale restaurants across the country did not open due to a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy filing by parent company S&A Restaurant Corp. of Houston, Texas. S&A is owned by MetroMedia which also owns Ponderosa and Bonanza Steakhouse chains. Also affected by this closing is the Bennigan's restaurant chain, also owned by S&A Restaurant Corp. Franchised restaurants are not affected by this closure.

Here in Katy, just west of Houston, Bennigan's had a filthy restaurant and pathetic service. I am glad they are gone. It was that bad.

It's really not that hard to succeed in this area, Applebees and Chile's do great and both are within sight of this location. Service and cleanliness. The food will take care of itself.

Last time was my last time. Food was horrible.

First off I did not know that Steak and Ale was owned or part of Bennigans. All though I have not seen a Steak and Ale in a long time (probably over 20 years) I do remember them being very good. Last time I saw one was in Denver in the late 80's. I am kinda surprised they are still around.

As for Bennigans, never had very many positive experiences there. Every time I went it just seemd to be the same tyoe of non caring service. And I am not talking about going to the same one over and over, I am talking about multiple ones.

A friend I play volleyball with has a chest freezer full of steaks, ribs, chicken, appetizers, etc. Apparently the restaurants that were to close (almost all of them in this area) were given only a last-minute call, saying that the stores weren't to open the next day, and that they could take whatever out of the store freezers.

Been to that location Dave, and I totally agree. Sorry I spent my $65 in there. For a nice, sit-down dinner in Katy try the Bistro 829 off of Mason.

I remember when "Steak and Ales" were called "The Jolly Ox"...at least they were in Memphis back in the 70s. They were good back then. The last time I ate at a "Steak and Ale" was 10 years ago in Indy......IT SUCKED!!! They went out of bidness about 9 years ago.
