I got this email from an anonymous member of this forum for many years. I've selected a passage to reprint:

I would recommend leaving politics out of the discussions or <some> will make a habit of not replying to any questions you might have in the future.

I'm done with politics here then. I'm a member of several other boards that have members with whom I disagree with yet it doesn't get in the way of audio. Oh well, I hope I'm not black listed already.

When I was a kid, politics was a personal thing. It should have stayed that way.

So didja skip reading the rules before you started posting, or did you read them and just choose to ignore them or did you think they didn't apply to you?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's gotta be one of those things...

I thought you would. After all, I learned it from you. ;):D

In truth, after that PM debacle with the silver whatever putz from WA state, I don't PM/email anything I wouldn't say on the forum. I mean, who would have ever thought that PRIVATE meant anything but that!?! In fact, I think what the OP did, posting a quote from a private email to be in very bad taste.

I, for one, assumed it wasn't; it wasn't direct enough.

    Good point.

Awe-d-o-file, politics is a personal thing. That's one reason why it, along with religion and another-topic-that-I-won't-even-identify-with-a-letter, are off the table.
Do some threads sometimes drift over into that area ?
Yeah, kind of hard sometimes not to, depending on the topic.

The best that can ever be done, IMO, is to post your views/ideas on the issue(s) that are affected by politics and let folks decide for themselves, "Hey ! That saddle fits my horse !".
If they don't see it, than it might possibly be that you're incorrect.

That email, btw, was actually a pretty nice heads-up.
    I didn't write it, either; not long-winded enough. :o

What's sad to me is that you are sitting on some really nice gear, chatting on an audio website and you want to talk politics?

Yes, private messages should be just that. Private.

How can a member be anonymous? you should know their nickname at least.. and if they have been on the forum for many years... then they obviously participate in the forum..

sorry this just struck me odd that a long time forum member could be anonymous.

Maybe I'm missing something. The OP of this thread didn't post 'til the second page of the thread, after a number of veteran posters that know the rules surrounding political discussions. When he posts a dissenting opinion, he's jumped on for political posts. He may have missed reading the forum rules, but when he's following guys with thousands of posts, who's really at fault? I think some of you guys need to realize that when you point a finger, there's three pointing back at you....
