Ok so I just got an Onkyo 606 a couple days ago and now I need some new speakers to go with it. It's a 7.1 receiver with 90 watts per channel and I would be using this system primarily for gaming/watching blu rays on my PS3 and gaming on my Xbox 360 and watching tv. I will probably listen to a good bit of music too. I am planing to start upgrading around Christmas time(mainly because I don't have much $$$ right now) but I am already doing my research. First of all this will be my bedroom setup which is fairly small(roughly 12x14 ft) so it is really too small for a 7.1 setup. I was thinking I would run some Monitor 40's as my mains and I would use the extra 2 channels on my receiver to bi-amp these speakers. Then I would get a Polk CS1 as the center channel, and mount some Monitor 30's over my bed. And I'm thinking I would get the Polk PSW303 powered sub. I can get all of this for $600-$650 on Amazon. What do you guys think?

I have to say the monitor 40's would be a good choice. You might be in luck because I am going to be putting my 40's up for sale after I get my new speakers. But that will be in a few months.

Yeah i will be a few months before I start making purchases as well, I've seen them as low as $140/pair(new) on Amazon... the prices vary daily.

So you think the Monitor 40's would be good main speakers? Would the Monitor 30's be good surrounds?

I'm new to Polk speakers so I need all the advice I can get.

The Monitor 40's I am using right now and they are bi-amped meaning there is two channels pushing power to one speaker. Them and a psw10 sub fill my room with sound the highs do get a little harsh at higher volumes but they are not a bad speaker. I would recomend using the 40's as rears and get a tower speakers such as the R50's or if you can aford it the Monitor 60's. That way you have something bigger that can fill the room better and allow the 40's to not work as hard. I want to sell my Monitors and get somthing that dosen't have to work hard to produce a room filling sound. So That is what I recomend. I am trying to find "myself" a set of Klipsch belle's" They are very efficent in producing there sound. But they are also expensive.

Yeah, the Monitor 40's are the most expensive I can get, but like I said, this will all be in a relatively small room(12 x 14 ft) and I will also bi-amp them, so I really don't think they will have to work that hard to fill the room with sound.

Thanks, and thank you for your offer( I can't reply to your PM because I don't have 10 posts yet lol) I will just have to see how things go the next couple months. What will probably happen is I will probably get the Monitors and the CS1 off Amazon and if I have any money left over, I will get the sub. But the sub is not a very high priority. I've currently got a decent Yamaha powered sub(it's only got a 6.5'' woofer- 50 watts rms but it's a great little sub! it goes down to 30Hz!) so I can live with that for a few more months if I have to. But right now I'm using some crappy HTiB Yamaha satellites so I'm obviously in serious need of an upgrade. I was originally wanting to go with JBL but their equipment is just too expensive, and Polk has alway had a good reputation and they have fairly affordable(to me) speakers, so that's why I chose to go with Polk. I also looked at the Infinity Primus series but they too were a bit too expensive for me and Infinity doesn't seem to have the reputation Polk does.

I just can't wait to actually get these speakers, a good receiver is nothing without good speakers. It will be at least another 5 more months:(
