My dad an his family lost everything yesterday in a house fire. All six of them made it out safe, but only with the clothes on their backs, except for my idiot brother who ran back in the house for the Xbox 360 :eek:. I called him a dumb ****, but had to laugh. I just gave or sold away all of my excess AV equipment. They have to meet with the adjuster and the Red Cross to see what is covered and how much aid they are going to receive. I was hoping to piece together what ever is not covered. Man, and I just gave away a 36" Sony Wega. I will have a house full here at my home until things are straightened out.

Pay
And I mean calling all cars, blackhawk down, mushroom cloud, Three Mile Island, lock the door behind you kind of mad.

A good friend of mine had his house burn to the ground about two years ago. The whole family was pretty distressed for a week or so but got through it ok. It was weird looking at it in person. That is when you really realize what its like to loose everything. No pics, no mementos, no clothes, no cash, no credit cards, no shoes, no nothing... They just looked to the future and rebuilt it to something way better than it was to start with. Looking to the future turned out to be the right way to go about it.

That would be the worst...the worth nothing moneywise but everything memorywise items.
So when I just bought a new gunsafe, I got the biggest one they had and with the highest fire rating as well. Then bought another fire safe to put INSIDE the gunsafe for family pictures ....little items my daughter made me while growing up...and all of the other non replaceable items.

That's a bummer, man. It's good that everyone is safe. It's hard to see that now that the tragedy has passed and the damage has to be put in to perspective. Here's to a speedy recovery for all involved. The memories aren't really gone, just the representations of them. The memories are always with you. But now you just gotta make more memories!

I think your brother did the right thing. Until Microsoft comes up with a feature that backs up saved game data, I'd run into a burning house too!

I just came from the house and man! Even the insurance workers were speechless! The fire was caused by a power surge. It blew th breaker box off of the wall and into the minivan. The van looked like a VW bug. The Van was ignited and fueled by 16 gallons of gas. The frame of the house is barely standing. I took an ax handle and beat through what was left of the sidewall to get to the fire safety box. Other than that corner of the house, all of the steel beams are bowed and warped clean to the basement floor.

Sorry to hear that, but remember: It's all good if you let it.

So here's what you guys need to do:

    1. Get your brother.
    2. Get the Xbox 360.
    3. Have your brother hold the Xbox 360, standing in the charred ruins.
    4. Take picture.
    5. Send picture to the Bill and Linda Gates Foundation, with the following
    note:

"Bill & Linda: I finally stopped smoking"

    "Please send financial help"

    6. Kick brother in the groin for being a dumbass.
    7. Hug brother for being your brother.

I say go with #6 no matter what else you do. Its questionable to run into a burning building to save a family member. Its sheer stupidity to run in for anything else.

A power surge? Seriously? What about all the other houses, seems if that was the cause other houses would have been effected.

They lived on a rural road. There are maybe only 5 houses on their ten mile long road and one of the other houses did catch on fire. The other neighbors all reported the surge as well...lights flickering...alarm clocks blinking...etc...etc.
