I'm about to rebuild a pair of these fine ****$ La Scalas for myself. GREAT horns and driver....nasty cabinet. But the company I work for has our own cabinet shop. CNC will do all the cuts and I will have a NEW pair to play with my little 5wpc SET.

    Chuck

Want mine before I build them?

Why does Klipsch have mega bucks speakers but not Polk? I would consider paying $10,000 for a modern Polk SDA fire breathing behemoth! This kinda urks me. I wish this thread was never started.

Good catch, I think you are correct. I was thinking it was a La Scala but now that I look closer (at both the picture and the belle's) I would think the Belle is correct.

The original post has a photo of the Belle Klipsch (named for Paul's wife, Belle). The innards are identical to the LaScala; performance is the same. It's just prettied up.

I have a pair of Klipschorns and a pair of Heresy's and I do enjoy listening to both when I have a chance. The Khorns are in my office setup and the Heresy's are currently hiding out in another room. I like the horns myself....the Klipsch ones anyway. I think the Belles are a beautiful pair of speakers and if you can find a set and have the area for them, they are great to own. If you come across some La Scalas, you can always build internal panels to make them look more like the Belles.

But my SRS II's are STILL in the living room.

The Heritage Klipsch have a much different sound than the Polks (at least the vintage Polks I am most familiar with). They do not have an extended top end, and the midrange, while exceptionally articulate, can be harsh, especially with poorer quality program material and/or unsympathetic amplification. Tube amplification helps a lot. The Khorn is capable of awesome LF performance. The La Scala and the Belle Klipsch have the characteristic horn bass but don't go deep at all. Form raconteur Tom Brennan likens the vintage La Scala sound to a Sawzall :-)

I owned a pair of Cornwalls (built in 1974) for about a decade, using them with single-ended 2A3 and (mostly) push-pull EL84 amplification. They were replaced with Altec Valencias, which are overall more to my taste (although they do not go as low as the Cornies).

The Belle and LaScala use different mid horns. Lascala uses the K-400 or K-401 horn and the Belle uses a K-500 mid horn. The sound is totally different from the horns as are the bass bin reflections. Both do use the K-33 woofer, K-55 mid horn driver (Atlas PD5VH), and K-77 tweeter. There are crossover differences in some of the models though they can pretty much be interchanged.

I agree. I'd rather have the big Polks come back than that $20,000 pair of Palladium 39's. I heard them at the Klipsch Pilgrimage in Indy in late june. Nice sounding speaker but nowhere near worth the bucks for the bang.

Those most definitely are the "Belle".
Here's my LaScalas. Better PA speakers as-is than audio speakers. Very lacking in the bass department without a sub as a kicker. They take up a lot of room also.

I owned the original Forte. They sounded terrific - until I upgraded to better SS amplification and then, while every instrument came through w/incredible clarity, I couldn't get the speakers to image at all. The Fortes had phenomenal bass - still miss that.

I've heard that they sound better w/tubes. Would like to get a listen.

A set of Belles just sold in Tulsa last week for $800. They were said to have been immaculate and my buddy missed them by about 10 minutes or so.
