Keep an eye out on ebay. Both the center channel and the SRT controller come up once or twice a year.

Is the SRT controller line level, or speaker level?

The SRT controller is line level switchable between mono or stereo for the SRT subwoofers and Speaker level for the sattelite speakers, center and surrounds.

The SRT controller does 3 things.
    1. It's a subwoofer controller (volume, phase, polarity, variable low pass filter, various level controls from fine to coarse(-10db,0db,+10db) fine subwoofer control variable from -10db to +10db, music attenuator control variable from -20db to +0db, music/video switch (video mode adds 10db of volume to the subs) for the SRT subwoofers.
    2. It has a dedicated SDA control module with 3 settings (off, normal, and wide)specifically designed for the SRT mains.
    3. It has a transformer to make the SRT system compatible with non common ground amplifiers and dual mono amplifiers just like the AI cable used on the sda series.

Most of the controls are accesible via remote control.

Heres the trader from ebay that was selling the fronts and center (with 2 Control centers). It may be worth trying to contact him to see if he'll part with the extra control center. They didn't sell on-line, he may still have them....

Just make sure you get some type of warranty on the SRT controller.
They're fragile and when abused, they will malfunction.
Once they go dead, there's no practical way to get them repaired.
Polk won't touch them and there's no service manual available.

I am thinking of buying a SRT setup. Can the SRT speakers - subs, mains, and center be used without the controller using a home theater pre/pro? Also, I am not really sure what is meant by 'non common ground amplifier'.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Theoretically, yes but it would defeat the sda effect.

The speakers by themselves with out the controller are still amazing. Having lived without a controller until recently, These speaker have such range that you will be truely blown away. A controller will pop up. But as far as the SDA effect. It is great and so unique but not needed to still enjoy the sound that these puppies reproduce. If you can buy them do it.

I have just started readinga about the SRT system - what do you mean by the 'SDA effect'? Is the ability to switch between the 'off, normal, and wide' effects mentioned in your earlier post?

Could you explain a little more about your bullet point 3 regarding the non-common ground issue. The reason I ask is that I am interested in buying an SRT setup, but based on what I read in case it does not come with a working controller how would I connect this up and want to understand the non-common ground issue you describe.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello Tollaksen,

I have a full SRT setup that I am looking to sell. I think I need to have the subwoofers repaired, but believe all other speakers (center) and the controller are fine. What are you willing to offer?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I will let you know. I am likely to repair the subs and then sell the whole system. I wish I could keep these, but my wife is not for them and in the smaller room we have for these I really can't disagree.
