I bet you can get one of these for $1500 if you shop around. Note, this is a stereo only player though.

I have a Marantz DV7001 for SACD. I actually use it for my standard definition DVD's also, since the upconvert looks better on it than on my blu ray player.

If I were getting a stand alone SACD I would look long and hard at the newer SA8001 which probably hits the sweet spot between high end and ridiculously expensive.

New? You can get a lot more player if you buy used. Audiogon is a great place to shop.
You can get this one, http://us.marantz.com/Products/2250.asp for around $1500.00 used.
Anyway, Hockeyboy's suggestion of the Marantz SA 8001 would fit the bill. The NAD M5 might also.Political Correctness'.........defined

Take a hard look at the 8260 by Marantz also. That is a good solid unit for around $400 used.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

do you listen to DVD-Audio as well? A universal player would give you that option. But the straight CD SACD players are purported to have a leg up on the universals. If you are looking at a universal CD SACD DVD-A player give the Denon a look. The one version back DVD3910 (which I have and can attest to) can still be had for around $600-650 new.) Used off of a-gon would certainly be less $$$. I had a mid grade Marantz universal player as well and it did a fine job.[

Both of those businesses are fine.
You can get a used SA-11S2 (List $3500.00) for less than a new SA-15. Just saying. Shop smart, warrantees are overrated.
As for the NAD, the M3, which is 2 channel only can be had for a little less.Political Correctness'.........defined

I just purchased the Marantz sa-8001 and believe it is an excellent player for both redbook and SACD. I am still breaking it in (I've heard that Marantz recommends 50 -200 hours break in time). Out of the box I feel it outperforms my Denon 3910. Redbook is really excellent. The stereophile review indicates that there may not be much more bang for the buck with the more than twice as expensive SA-15. The one thing that I do not like is that there is no on/off remote capabilities. Sure you can just leave it on all the time, or as the enginner who designed the thing probably figured you have to walk to the unit to put in a CD anyways.

A bit more but this looks like a deal, Esoteric is in league above the players you have been looking at. None though are bad players. -
I have a Marantz SA-8260 CD player, while good it has some issues. You cannot set up your SACD to two-channel as default, it always reverts to multi-channel. Response time is pretty slow and I know that the transport gets misaligned quite easily.
I also have a Denon DVD-3030CI DVD player. My opinion is that it easily outperforms the Marantz in sound quality and in imaging.
You might want to wait for the new Pioneer Elite BMP05FD (I think). It uses the latest Wolfson DACs which are supposedly the best right now. This unit is being released next month. -

Sony DVP-NS9100ES. Especially if you have a Sony 7100ES with digital Ilink for direct DSD between player and per-amp.
Also, the DVD portion provides an excellent upconverted picture. Now that I have my roomed tuned I cannot get over how great the 9100ES to 7100ES to Sunfire TGA-5400 to LSi15 sounds.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
