Well I got top meet Jerry. He had some LSI 15's that he blew the resistors on so I offered a hand. He is a real cool guy, and it was a pleasure to meet him. We listened to some tunes, and talked a bit. Always nice to meet new Polkies.

Well I have checked out the XO's, and he is interesed in doing the caps on the highs. Where is the best place to get sonicaps?

Did you measure the physical size of his current caps?

The tweeter caps are located on the top of the board, and have plenty of room. There are some large value caps located underneath that would make upgrading them involve relocation. It can be done, but they are 100+ uf's , and only one is in the signal path. I find signal path caps most crucial especially in the tweeter section. I am not saying that there is no benefit to the lower frequency caps, but cost/rework makes them less critical.

Thanks for the info. And yes, that's a 130uf in the signal path, which would be fun to upgrade. :)

Yeppers. You could just add a little wire, and mount it on top. As you stated there is the one large 130uf in the signal pathe that I would consider upgrading. Let me know if you find a replacement for that big cap. I have my youngest here, and don't have too much time to do any research. I am just bouncing back, and forth on the internet today.

From a quick search, Solen is the only brand I could find who makes a 130. Mundorf M-Cap, Auricap, and Dayton have some large values that could make 130uf with two caps.

Soniccraft will do custom windings if you call and speak to them, if Soniccap is what you want.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Yes, Jeff will build custom values. But, that's about 100uf larger or more than 4 times the size of any of his current offerings, I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap.

Aren't they a wound foil? I don't know, whatever you want to call it, but they'll do custom values :D But true, 130uf is pretty massive with respect to their line, so not sure if they could do anything that large. But they could probably do two 65's.

Custom caps for this project are kinda out. I do not mind however running to caps of near equal value;)

We want photo's. When I get my LSi 7's I hope there will be enough room on the x-over board for new caps.

    Per order H9's request...
The tweeter caps are conveniently located on top, and are 12, and 18uf.

Nice! Thanks Ben for the quick response. In pic (4) in the forefront is that the faulty resistor?

I have a pair of LSi 7's coming; the seller said they were in good condition with some cosmetic issues on the side panels and the acrylic end caps. Mosty scratches and scuffing. I'm still leary because generally that could mean they were abused in other ways. So I half expect there to be an issue with one or both speakers. Just call it a hunch. I took the leap of faith and I hope I'm wrong but for what I have in them they will still be worth it even if they need electrical repairs.

Thanks for the kind words Ben. You really opened my eyes to some new concepts. I know those XO's are in good hands. I have been looking for the pics of those massive speakers on the forum. Would you happen to remember where the post is? They sound so sweet.
