I found MIT's are excellent at removing hum.

HUM is a sign of a greater problem that shouldn't be there. Masking or removing it with expensive cables is not the solution . . . especially when correcting the hum likely costs less.

Sorry, I should have clarified, not ground loop, but impedance mismatch as RT mentioned. They also lower floor noise. http://www.mitcables.com/pdf/energy_efficiency_noise_wp.pdf

    BINGO!!

I had no issue with hum when the ELP was hooked up to the tubed Anthem I sold to George. Only with SS amps. I should have stated that earlier. None of the cables I mentioned were very expensive...used that is.

Interesting. The Khartago is made to be run with Tube amps. I ran one with a Candela and a Rogue Audio Metis with no issue.

Not every SS amp I've used with the ELP, just the AMC and the PSound I had. Did you mean tube pre-amps? The Khartargo is an amp.

Nick, you got to call Gary and Klaus up to figure out if you have some impedance issues.

Are you absolutely certain it's a HUM and not just tube noise? My Metis had some background hiss but more than made up for it in sonics. Is that what you are hearing?

I never really worried about the hum I had, either. The ELP also more than made up for it with sonics, too.

Yup, it took me spending around $2,500 to finally have a silent tube pre. A little hiss is part of the territory.

I bought the Dodd from Phuz. He stated that the Hum has always been there with the Dodd. It is a very light hum that you only hear between songs or very low levels. He said I could send it back to Gary and he would build a separate power supply for it and it would be dead silent. There was actually one on A-gon right above Phuz's listing that had the separate power supply upgrade(or fix).

I'll see if it gets better when I get my new cables from Ben. I am sure the Rat shack cables are not helping matters.

Either way its not that big of an issue and the sonic characteristics of the Dodd are amazing!!! So I can deal with it.:D

The biggest news right now is today at lunch I put the rig in the dedicated listening room. And voil

    . . . I just had a religious experience.

I'm not sure if it was the recording or my system. But, this album never sounded so good. IT was spooky sick. At one point there is a man speaking as music plays in the background. When he began speaking I jumped out of my seat . . . It sounded like he was right behind my left ear! Whispering. I'm frickin serious. Someone was in that room with me. Stereo is awesome!

The music continues to play until it grows to full volume. The guitar was primarily at center stage, but a few spooky notes would jump behind my listening position. Amazing!

God I love stereo and Tool!

I've been there my friend. That's synergy! The room is an instrument too. Welcome to a higher side of hifi.

Also, it sounds like that noise you are hearing is just a natural part of tube pres at that level. You could fix that, but I would buy an Odyssey Candela. That's a deadly preamp and made for the Khartago. Dead silent with that amp of yours too. Not to give you any ideas . . .

LOL! Your quote nailed it.. Too funny..

The Candela was in mind as soon as I picked up the Khartago. I have looked at it ten times or more. I will probably pick one up eventually but right now I am just going to enjoy what I have. I don't want to leave this room.:D

    Nick.
Very nice. It makes me want to setup a second rig. My RTA15RDO's are collecting dust.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Well... The tubes that are in it as we speak are Jan Phillips green labels.

I have tried Ei Elite Gold pins
    Jan Phillips Blue Labels
    JJ's
Amperex Green label Gold Pins 6922
GE 6bq7's Shhhh. I don't even know if anybody knows you can use these tubes. But you can great deals on them since nobody knows about them.

So far I don't like any of them. But I need to get my new cables in the system before I can really evaluate them. None of them seem to be as warm as I would like right now. But a lot of that could be due to cheap cables.

If you know of a good warm tube off hand. Let me know.

Mullards are warm from my experience with them. After George picks out the tubes he wants, from the ones I'm shipping to him, I may have a NOS pair of Mullards leftover. If I do, I'll let ya know.

    Nick,

Where do you live in Indiana?

    Yes!! Send them..

I have been looking at those exact tubes because of there warm sound. How ironic. I just haven't had the funds to pick them up yet. I am still recovering from buying this rig.

    PM is on its way.

    Well.

Everything seems to be lined out. I got my speaker cables from signal last week And I got my IC's from Ben last week. The signals should be fully burned in and Ben's are getting pretty close.

All I can say is WOW!!!. It really came around. It has been a roller coaster ride since I started building the rig. One day it would sound like **** and the next day it would sound great. Now it just sounds great.

Today is the first day I have really got to sit down and just enjoy the rig. No swapping tubes every ten minutes. NO worrying about if cables are holding me back. No worries about anything. Just pop in a CD and listen to some great sounding music. I am listening to the Best of KC & Sunshine Band right now and everything sounds perfect. Horns, drums, vocals. Everything sounds as it should. At least in my mind anyway and thats all that really matters.

Its very moving. Its like the rig is pulling me into the music. I'll start grinning a little bit, then start tapping my fingers, next comes the head bobbing and then the eyes close and I'm there.

    Rock on Everybody. I know I am.:D
