I can use any of its flavors, which include:

Analog
Coax Digital
Optical
HDMI

I'm leaning toward analog. Is this awesome? Y/N.
Currently listening to:

Marantz SR5004
Sony BDP-S370
Apple TV V2
Audio Technica AT-LP120
Mirage CMD-5 x 5
Bic H-100

    Analogue...

Thats also the only way to get SACD play back form the Oppo.

Buy a DAC and use a Coax.

Which Oppo? All current models will output SACD over HDMI. The 980 will output DSD over HDMI.

That's the way I would go, and have, only with the Pioneer DV-48AV.

    I didn't know that.

I never had anything that would except HDMI. Not in the two channel rig anyway.

I would still use Analog though. But thats just me.

Why analog? The analog outputs on the Oppo's aren't anything special, at least on the 983 I tried. I guess it would depend on the DAC's in your pre, or if there are DAC's in your pre.

if you use the analog outputs from your Oppo, isn't it doing the dig to analog conversion and not your receiver?
    PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert

Once again I'm not sure..... But I think so. I had good results with the Oppo this way. I was running a Jolida tube amp so it was all I could use with it.

I also ran the same Oppo with a LMC-1 pre pro from Emotiva. I still preferred the analog for 2 channel music and used digital for HT listening.

I have never had a chance to try out the HDMI connect for music. So I can't comment on it.

I don't really understand how it all works. I just know what I've and tried and what sounds best to me.

I've got all four hooked up right now (it's super attractive, trust me). They all sound so nice and I've got so much alco- love in me it's hard to choose which one should stay/be default.

It allows the signal to stay in pure DSD all the way to the DA converters in the pre. Some claim this sounds better.

Hmmm. I didn't know that. Gives me something else to try someday.

    Thanks!
