Now I own a Kinergetics CD player--anyone?

Bought a Kinergetics KCD-40 CD player today at a yard sale. Not used much, original box, etc. Is anyone familiar with this unit or the company that made them? I've been able to find out very little other than they were highly regarded and now out of business.

Ended up shelling out $100 for it. More than I'm comfortable spending on an old CD player, but the thing cost a boatload when new so I figured I'd take a chance. Looks to be outstanding quality, physically at least. Was able to get a money-back trial period so I'm not entirely screwed if I don't like it.

Anybody remember these things?

    Smells like...victory.

    I haven't even finished lunch yet, listening test will commence later in the weekend. The seller was very careful to mention his experience with it needing several days of warm-up time before sounding musical. Available documentation seems to support this.

    Never heard of that brand--sounds interesting though. Have fun and let us know how it sounds.

    It's a beautiful component. 100% dark gray brushed aluminum, silver mechanical toggle switches instead of buttons. This about all I've been able to find online:

    EDIT: I believe I have the later KCD-40 Platinum, as the previous version ("Gold") I've managed to find photos of has a much more traditional '80s-CD-player look to it.

    Their amps and CD players always seemed to get great reviews back in the day when they were still in operatoin.They also made a killer subwoofer using a powerful amp of their own design and a cabinet with IIRC 4 x12"woofers.

    The guy I bought this from had one of their smaller subwoofer systems he was selling. I'm not sure of the driver layout, but each box couldn't have been more than 16" long. Came with a matched power amp with a built-in crossover.
