Shipping to Canada

I shipped a Canon 5d kit to Ontario from Pennsylvania on July 3rd. The post was supposed to take 6-10 business days. This is business day 14. The really bad part is that I forgot a battery and subsequently mailed it 3 days after the camera and the recipient got the battery already. USPS would only insure it for $667. I have used the receipt to track it, but all that it is telling me is that it cleared customs on the 7th of July. We are talking about 3k worth of hardware lost in limbo, along with my reputation. Anyone with any experience in dealing with the Canadian post know where to start?

I've shipped to Canada three times. Twice it took WAY too long for the items to arrive, no way or tracking their progress, costly as hell. The third time an item was damaged.

Unless someone throws money at me, no way I'm shipping anything internationally again.

Customs bogs things down on both sides. 14 days is not all that bad, I have waited longer than that. You will probably need to start the search at the origin, namely USPS. Hope it turns up and good luck.

...I know...UPS did not ship to his address. I know...I should have walked away when I heard that, but a deal is a deal. I have faith that it will show up this week, but if it does not I wonder if it is insure through PayPal. He would probably have to file a claim against me, and would have to trash my 100% eBay record, but 2.5K is a lot of money to be out.

I live in Canada and have stuff shipped here regularly (ask George Grand) and have had very few problems. Two weeks is not uncommon. If given the option I NEVER us ups. They charge outrageous brokerage fees to clear Canada customs. USPS is the most effective overall. Next is FedEx. Your parcel will have been charged duty almost for certain which the recipient will have to pay. Last week I had a 7 LP parcel leave California on Monday and Friday was on my doorstep via USPS. A world record (so to speak) I'm sure. Longest was subwoofers from San Diego at just over 30 days. I've never had any damage issues except on my Pro-Ject turntable which was the sellers fault for not properly packaging. Be patient it will arrive.

It'll be fine, it just takes forever. USPS is the way to go unless you want to spend serious scratch with one of the freight haulers like UPS, FedEx, etc.

UPS shipping to Canada was a pain to me. A cartridge was damaged and the stylus lost either by UPS or the Custom, and UPS tried to refuse to investigate the problem and did not take responsibility. Very bad experience with UPS shipping to Canada.

The best UPS claim ever was the 50lb load of Fiji live rock for my reef aquarium that was delivered in two styro coolers inside of boxes. Box 'A' looked good but had a sticker on it that said "Package was damaged but contents were checked and undamaged"; however, box 'B' had no sticker and looked like it was thrown off of the truck doing 90mph and then backed over, and then delivered. Box 'B's contents were not checked! I filed a claim. That was about 5 years ago..

I'm in the same predicament. I purchased some monoblocks from Audio Eden in Canada and it was shipped July 5th. It hasn't arrived yet. I'm going to ask the seller to put a tracer on it. I'm not very patient when it comes to waiting for audio gear to arrive.

I think they are only able to track the package up to the border. Good luck.
