Hello all
I've just bought an RM6880 audio system and an Onkyo SR-705 receiver with Audyssey calibration system. The Polk manual says to install the front L and R speakers through the Sub and set them to "large" so all the frequencies go to the Sub to be managed there and distributed accordingly. The other possibility is to send the front speakers signals, in parallel, to the Sub but, in this case, it seems to me that the bass goes to both speakers and Sub (there are no indications about different settings in the receiver for the speakers in this case). The problem is that, in any of these two options, the subwoofer output in the receiver will be empty and the Audyssey calibration system doesn't "hear" the Sub.
An alternative, is to use the receiver's subwoofer output and a Y cable to connect it to the L and R RCA jacks on the Sub but, in this case, there is no instructions in the Polk manual about the configurations (regarding THX, crossover frequencies, etc.).
I've read thousands of pages about these subjects in forums and even in the Polk site but they are controversial and the effect on me was to increase the uncertainties on what to do. I know that the sound configuration in a surround system is a very personal thing but I would like to know which is the best starting point.
In summary, the questions are:
What should be the Sub hookup (wiring) in case I want the Audyssey calibration to "hear" the Sub?
What should be the Sub and the front speakers (L and R) setups in the receiver in case I use the pre-amp subwoofer?
What should be the Sub and the front speakers (L and R) setups in the receiver in case I use the front speakers through the Sub ("Polk way 1")?
What should be the Sub and the front speakers (L and R) setups in the receiver in case I use the front speakers in parallel with the Sub's Speakers Level Input ("Polk way 2")?
How can you help me on that?
