I was very happy with what I had before I came here. Top O the line JVC 88' receiver, and supporting sources with a pair of Infinity RS's. Look what you have done to me! I am sitting up all hours of the night. I will not go to sleep! I was just rubbing down some vinyl, and liking IT! This is the reason I have stayed away from vinyl! Who in their right mind wants to do the dance before they can even listen to the pops, and clicks of a 100 year old format? I get off on that stuff now What have I turned into? I used to think a wire was a wire. I wanted to dispute it. I thought you guys were off your friggen rocker pickling your pinkies in Martini's. Cables make a difference. I have more money in my cables than my whole "killer JVC setup". I get goose bumps when I listen to my music. I listen to friggen Jazz. I listen to crap my mom listened to when she was young. I am worse than Monk when positioning my speakers. I can't stand to listen to my friends crappy gear. I try to smile, and say "oh thats nice" when really I'm thinking I hope there is a power outage. Where is my medication!

Thats funny. Thanks for the laugh. My buddy did the same thing with a TIB the size of a portable DVD play hooked up to some fisher's with 15" woofers. I smiled and said sounds nice;)Please. I've had people tell me how badass they're Bose system is. Then they listen to mine and get all pissed off. F#ckin' priceless.
Don't feel bad Ben. I've got more good **** in storage than most people have in use at their house... -
I don't feel bad when the new addiction to vinyl is running through my veins. I was just listening to Linda Ronstadt Whats new on a used piece of vinyl I picked up for $6 today, and it just absolutely blew my mind! Could not believe how great it sounded on a TT I won hear in a karma. Fantabulous. I wish you were here to hear it. Absolutely amazing. She kills Diana Krall, and Alison Krauss. I am in search of some more well recorded talent like hers. Sent chills up my spine! Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. I'll still take Motley Crue's "Shout at the Devil" on vinyl, thanks."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

I did some queen on vinyl that was stellar. I have two albums that I picked up at the thrift store for a total of $1.50. Genesis land of confusion. REO speed wagon. I have been having a blast! I have no regrets except the waste of time in HT. I liked it, and it was fun, but it is the music that moves me. Nothing like having the singer front, and center. I can not get over the dynamics of vinyl. I am seriously hooked. I am actually quit content with my player now. I made up some neoprene pads to place under the feet, and it made a huge difference in SQ. I am going to apply some Dynomat to the chassis to help even more. Just a little tweak made leaps, and bounds improvement.

I know its 4am here, but I am going sailing with Christopher Cross I can't wait to get the cheap active XO out of my loop, and get the one I am building in there. I have a remote control volume/source selector on the way. Some custom boards for the active XO I am building. No BS with pots, and such just straight clean single set frequency. I may go 12db or 24 on the low, and 24db on the high. I have all the parts for the tube buffer already so what I am going to end up with is a Pre/XO that you can chose Passive,SS, or tube for the line stage. I may just sell my Outlaw 990, and build my own phone input. We'll see. I have been kinda hush hush about progress, but test are good, and the boards are on there way. I found a company here in the US that will get custom boards to me in three days from sending them the schematics. Wait and see my friends. I hope to have most of this complete by the time PF ATL happens:) My bridged parallel gainclone boards should be here in the am. I hope to offer these items to Polkies too. I have a suppler for the chassis. Real nice gold anodized. The Carver forum guys have been purchasing quit a bit. My IC's have been selling like hot cakes. I have been studying many of the Pre's out there that the top designers have been building, and I have learned so much in the last month. I am beside myself. Well like I said it is time to go sailing;)

Ben...when I get back we'll kick it up to the next level in the vinyl relm. I have about, I don't know, 60 or so MFSL recordings on vinyl. One of my faves is Modern Jazz Quartet - Live at Carnegie. This sounds amazing to me. Want to hear another real treat you should hear Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good on MFSL. Oh and Donald Fagen - The Night Fly on MFSL is pretty good too. I also have tons of 180 & 200 gram pressings that are in minty shape. Sorry to disapoint you but most of my stuff doesn't pop and crackle too much. Want some good women singers look for most anything done by Julie London or Janis Ian. I kind of like the way they sing on those old HI-FI STEREO recordings.

Resistance is futile.
I kind of feel bad. But in my own defense, all I did was ask IF, you were into vinyl.
I am not, and based on this thread, will probably stay clear of it!
I don't know WHAT'S in that Koolaid, but I just hope it taste good.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Don't feel too bad, I'm getting ready to drop $1000 on a knob and some wire. Well I didn't make it to sleep till about 6:30am again. I stopped with the tunes around 5. I laid there thinking about what to get. Thanks chuck for the recommendations. It'll give me something to look for when hunting some more material. I picked up a record cleaner, and what a difference it has made in the SQ. Night and day. From one Ben to another stay clear of vinyl. I now know what you vinyl guys are talking about, and my setup is absolutely nothing to brag about when it comes to the TT.

Hey- if you're looking to unload your 555, I might be in the market, eh? Could use a step up from the 535 I'm using nowLudicrous gibs!
-
I did some work to it. I replaced the bridge rectifiers with better ones, added smaller faster caps to the main PS caps. Replaced all the electrolytic caps on the input board, and installed faster drivers on the output board. This one is a decent step up from stock. I am kinda debating, but I just lost interest in having a full surround setup. I am strictly 2 channel now. My kids don't now the difference if there are 2, or 6 speakers in the mix. I really think it is time for it to go.

Sounds sweet... let me know. My SDA2's yearn for more power. Even though I've never seen the distortion lights blink on my current 535, I feel the need for more headroom.
Were you using it to power one of the sets of speakers, which is why you're considering getting rid of it? The 555 is a very powerful 2ch amp... what would you be using in place of it as your primary 2ch amp?Ludicrous gibs! -

Actually it is driving a pair of tweeter now. It has sweetened up a bit over stock, and is serving light duty. I am just out of funds, and I have a 2 GFA-565's that are almost back together, and I have a GFA-585 for the tweeters. I think a 585 should be enough for two tweets:D I just can't let go of that piece. I'll email a pic later of the 555. I was going to put it on the bay, but I would rather have a Polkie get. BTW I upgraded the power cord. Nothing fancy, but a lot better than that tiny lamp chord that they came with!

You're going to put a 585 on a pair of tweeters???
Hey, I'm sure we can work something out rather than having it hit the 'bay.Ludicrous gibs! -

I have no regrets except the waste of time in HT.
You are no longer my friend.:(
Lossless from my PC to 2 channel analog, plays almost all night at my house. (Right after HD TrueHD movies) I cant think straight when I get to work, from exhaustion after staying up all night.
The only problem I have in life is the lack of audio enthusiast around my area, to actually sit and talk face to face. And "share" audio stories and systems. Not these HTIB boneheads. Who think buying in bulk is the greatest thing since sliced bread.:p

I was there a week ago. Went to Ft Lauderdale for the Forth. Watched the fireworks at the beach in the rain. My sis, lives in Ft L, spent a few days with her. Drove down to the keys for 2 days, then back to her house.Monitor 7b's front
