    Ernie,
That's what I plan to power them with if I decide to get some watt puppies. That's why I'm only gonna be looking at some high eff stuff.

    S2B,
    Thanks for the input.

    Wardsweb,
I'm not actually planning to get Alexandrias. If I go the Wilson route, I'd most likely get watt puppies.
    My limit is 25k.
Since you're a horn guy, how would you describe the slam, dynamics, and transients of Wilson speakers compared to my La Scala? I don't want something that's not gonna hit as hard.
    thanks

Hard to describe - kind of like your LaScala's are a Big Block Chevy and the Wilsons are a Ferrari. Just as much power but done with more finesse. Bass without boom and a sound stage with depth but not to forward.

I listened to the Alexandria's at Overture in Delaware a little while back. In fact it was a slow day there & the salesguy was taking me to the different rooms & when he brought me into the room where they were I just had to ask him to fire them up. He said no problem (he sure as **** knew I wasn't buying them...$125K) but non the less he obliged me. Downright incredible sounding & pretty much left me for a loss of words.

He gave me the whole nine yards on how they're made, the custom paint etc. Now get this, the speaker cables were a $26K from MIT. Nothing but the best he said. Who was I to argue.

So I asked him...how many pairs do you sell of these? He said about a dozen a year. He went on to say that most are bought without even being heard, these guys just have so much money that they want to impress there friends!! They even have them painted to match there fancy sports cars too. Damn!!! They ship them all over the world. If you ever get a chance to get your ears on a pair of these babies...be ready to be amazed!!

He almost sold me a pair, except they wouldn't fit into my van!! :D

Phil can you imagine how they would sound with a sub.......:D

I hope a few of the dozen sold each year actually go to someone who appreciates them and not their price tag.

I've seen people actually sitting in the room listening. I don't know if they
bought a set, but if the cars parked out front were any indication,
they could afford them! Maybe the rich guys down here in Dallas
    are more "hands on"?
I know there are quite a few that do know their audio. I hope to
be there when they trade in all that vintage stuff. Some of
the trade ins look like they were brand new.

Got a chance to listen to some Maxx's today ($58k or so) and was underwhelmed (they were driven by Mark Levinson gear).

I definately liked the watt puppies alot more. Also listened to the sophia's and they were very nice, but did not reach the watt puppies in performance. (A little less bass, not as detailed highs and not quite as large a soundstage)

I got to spend a little over an hour listening to the watt puppies again and they were every bit as fantastic as last time I listened to them. This time they were driven by Krell gear. I am still not ready to drop $26k on them (mainly because I don't have it) but I will own a pair at some point - they are just that awesome. They are the first speakers I have listened to that made me want to listen to more music in 2 channel rather than set them up in a home theater. Get your ears on a pair if you have the opportunity.

Here were the comments I posted in the original Audio Stores in Nashville thread....

    McLoki,
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I really appreciate it.
Wonder if used pairs pop up often? The older watt/puppies systems should go around the 10k mark or less. I think it was the bass cabinet that they improved in the newer models.

Well, one pair of speakers just made it to the top of my list. I got to listen when I went to buy my new pre-amp a few days ago at the dealer. We were comparing an Audio Research pre with the Audio Zone pre on them. The speakers are Mark & Daniel "Apollo II". The mids was absolutely awesome! Very full bodied and robust. I'm going back to have the caps and coils in my speakers upgraded, so I'm going to bring my own music and do some more listening.

If I get them, I would probably use the gain clone on the mids/highs and a pair of digital monos on the bass. My dream system is slowly becoming a reality.

I heard them awhile ago. They are the only speaker my ex EVER liked. After we heard them (Progressive Audio) She looked me square in the eye and said "We have to have these" then Steve broke our collective hearts with the price.

There are a pair of Watt/puppy version 7's on audiogon for about 13k. When the version 8's get there, I will start being pretty tempted.

Based on past history, I would expect them to go to version 9's sometime in late 2009 or early 2010. Version 8's should start showing up on the used market shortly after that.

They really do sound awesome. I can't wait to own a pair. (and it gives me some time to actually build a decent listening room...)

Came across this and remembered this thread. A few versions back, but a pretty good deal.
