Steve's "must own" classics...

I've decided that every now and then, when I hit upon a gem in my listening sessions, I'm gonna pass it on to the younger audiophiles who may or may not be aware of the recording.
The "Sonic's" and "Performance" ratings will be based on a 1 to 5 star rating; 5 being best.
Ok, kicking this off (and I encourage others to participate) is:
Band: Toto
Allbum: The Seventh One
Catalog#: CK40873
Method: 16 bit; AAD
Sonics: ****
Performance: ****
Notes:
Almost as good as Toto's smash/multiple grammy winning Toto IV. This is what music should be; excellent content, meaningful lyric, outstanding presentation. This one is kinda funky and has excellent dynamic range, I have to jack the volume to 1 o'clock for moderately loud volume--where a recent recording would be at about 10 o'clock for the same level. This music is so good, it inspired me to make this thread.
Buy it.

Hey, I really appreciate this thread and hope many will post here.
I'm not young, but I'm new to the audiophile gig, so any and every bit of advice, help and tips is very much appreciated! I'll check out the Toto albums!
Thanks very much."Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." Bob Seger -

Totally agree!! This is an excellent album that has been sadly overlooked. IMHO, there is not one single weak track on this album....from the single "Pamela" to "Home of the Brave". Highly recommended is the ballad, "Anna". Guests include Yes' Jon Andersen, Linda Ronstadt (who provided some rocking background vocals), and Patti Austin.
One more thing, Steve, this is a digitally recorded album. It should be at the minimum a DAD recording, if not an outright DDD recording. I wonder if the Japanese DSD-remastered CD is any improvement? -

I'll have to check it again tonight, I may have fudged up....the one I have is OLD. It's not a remaster or any special release--if there is one, I must have it.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

In the US, Toto's "The Seventh One" was never remastered. On the front cover, in the bottom right corner and underneath the "Compact Disc" logo, it should say "Digitally Recorded" in tiny fonts. -
I was never a Floyd fan, until I bought these two; Roger Waters 'Live in the Flesh' concert DVD, and DSOTM, SACD. These 2 are the best SQ I've got. Just the way they're recorded, I can't explain it?!
With Queen's 'A Day at the Races' a close 3rd. Just a regular old cd.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!
