Speaker Repairs
Here is a problem that is not really Polk Audio related, but this is the most helpful group of forum dwellers I have seen, so here goes.
I have a pair of Infinity Sterling SS 2001 that I would like to use again, on my pc sound system. I run digital optical from my soundcard out to a Kenwood reciever, then out to stereo speakers. Currently I'm using the sattelites from a Klipsch promedia set. all 4 of them, wired to speakers A and B. Plus a little sub, running off the kenwood's sub level out.
The Infinity speakers have the surrounds completely torn out of them. Gone.
Are these drivers worth repair, or would i be better off getting new drivers to mount in the cabinets.
They are 5 1/2 drivers, with a tweeter above. I want to use them on my desktop.
alternately, what other speakers are relatively small, and would sound good in the application?

I know nothing about the speakers in question, but there are any number of places that will replace the surrounds or sell you a kit and you can do it yourself.Political Correctness'.........defined

Might actually get you to upgrade to a 2-channel system as well. :eek:~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
I would buy the pair of totems that are for sale in the classfied section....wont find a better sounding small speaker.....they would blow the infinities away as well as alot of other larger speakers..

well, thanks for the info. and i am sure the totems are fantastic speakers, but there is no way i could spend 450 for two speakers. ever. my ears are not that sensitive, and my budget will not allow that. that is a car payment people!
repair is probably the best bet. but parts express doesnt carry a surround kit for these, or a generic 5.5 inch kit either. where else to look? -

Last year I sent two 5.25" speakers to Orange County speaker (www.speakerrepair) for refoaming. Cost came out to be about $70 after tax and shipping. It came out okay but for that money, I think I should have invested in new drivers. You can get drivers cheap these days from places like Parts Express or Madisound. -
try to find a pair of Polk Audio Rti4s, they sound great, cost about 150-200 for the pair depending on where you shop and look great. They will be awesome for a PC rig.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

speaker surround kits available on ebay for about 20 bucks delivered,,, if u are handy and patient u can relace the surrounds yourself,,, it will take about 2 days to do and about 2 0r 3 hours total time,,,just be careful and not in a rush at all
