Magnepan Tympani 1D Loudspeakers - 8/10 - Beige - *SOLD*
I've had fun with these but nothing lasts too long in my 2CH world. They sounded better than the Magnepan 3.5R I owned awhile back but they are also much bigger and not as easy to setup at first.
The Tympani loudpeaker is a hinged, 3 panel system and approximately 6' by 4' dimensionally. That's for each speaker, not just one. The tweeter panel on the end can be moved back and forth for imaging, so the width may very depending on how you have them set up. The picture is only the left channel, not the entire speaker.
Tympani I-D
1980
6 screens
40Hz-20kHz ±3dB
6dB/oct @ 1.1kHz
300Wrms @ 4O
93dB/10W/6' @500Hz
85.6dB/1W/1m
4Ohm
16"×71"×1"(Panel Dimensions)
The fabric is the original, 1970's hippie style and aside from a couple spots on the front of one speaker, in excellent condition. No tears or holes that I'm aware of.
I have all the original packaging and would rather do pickup or meet you in person for a hand-off. The speakers together weigh in at about 240 lbs. for the pair. You will need a friend to help you move them AND to set them up.
The connections have all been throughly gone over with CAIG Pro-Gold. This includes ALL the jumpers on the back and inside the crossover panel. The binding posts accept banana plugs only.
If you have any questions, just post them here. This is a very serious loudspeaker....not for amateurs.

It's a traditional loudspeaker setup with an independent left and right channel. Each channel has three(3), hinged panels. That's a 6x4 speaker on each side.
In the picture, the panel on the left is the tweeter and the other two are the midrange/bass panels.
I meant to get pics when it was all setup but completely forgot. I may set it up again, just for pics but that depends on how motivated I am.....and how buff I feel that night.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. I had Tympani 1D's powered by Threshold amps and a Citation pre-amp back in the late '70's. Listening to DSOTM on them is still one of my best audio memories. I sold them after a year or so because I just had to have Dahlquist DQ10's. One of the larger and most regretful audio mistakes I have made. My memories of the Tympani 1D's are what led me to go back to Magnepan and acquire the 1.6QR a couple of years ago.
Fully restored Tympani's are hard to come by. Great looking speakers from a great seller. If you've got the room, I agree that these will still compare well to today's offerings.DKG999

If for some strange reason (I have no idea why not) Darla doesn't wrestle you for the Totems can we see the cats and the guinea pig go at it? I already started painting my face for the event and got out my old multi colored afro wig. I even stocked the taco wagon for the concessions.

Slowcar - They dig into 40hz, just not with bone crushing response. They would work fine in an HT but honestly I don't think these are for you. I'm basing that solely on your exploits with the subwoofers and from what I've read in other threads. No offense, just an observation.
As far as shipping goes, maybe but that's not an exciting option for me right now. They are difficult to ship safely.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

If these are a bit intimidating, you should check out the MMG's for sale in another thread. Damascus isn't that far. Just can't swing it now being unemployed and all.......and my benefits ran out.....would like to though....just sold my CJ PV-1 for $500 but I should be responsible and bank it......the wife will be happier. I really don't have the room as in my house is already full of stuff. One of the spare bedrooms has oak veneer SDA 1A's and several floor model tube radios. The other bedroom is now the music room with a Rhodes, American Tele and a Squire bass with two amps; Fender super Reverb and a Marshall JCM 800 w/one 10" , also incorporated an amp/sub coming out of a Pod XT. Any trade bait there? Guitars are left handed.

I'd buy them but shipping to Hawaii is too outrageous for something that big...

Awe - I appreciate the list of possible trade stuff but I'm no musician. You might drop a line to BlueMDPicker....but then again, he's got WAY too many guitars as it is.
Hawkeye - Maybe next time, thanks for the interest and PM's. Sorry about the recent problems and I'm especially mad....hell, that could have been part of our deal.
