The guy has been lighting it up for the Rangers all year long. He has like 95 RBI's so far. . .

Was the first pick a few years back and have oodles of talent, but apparently he pulled a Whitney Houston / Marion Berry and got hooked on the rock for a while.

Good to see someone turn their life around and excel like no one else on baseball's biggest stage (well, except for world series).

Great story behind this guy. Hopefully the kid Allison from MA(next town over from me actually) gets his act together as he fell into the same boat as Josh.

I was watching an episode of "Flip this House" on A&E a couple of years ago. Richard Davis who owns Trademark Realty and was the "star" of the show had this young guy he knew as a kid working for him flipping houses. This Davis guy was a big baseball fan and the kid was Josh Hamilton who had grown up around the Charleston SC area where David was located. The story was told how Hamilton was a "can't miss" player out of HS who got mixed up in drugs and busted out of MLB. Supposedly David liked the kid so much he bought a entry level farm team in Maine or something just to give the kid a place to play and surprised him with the second chance. From there he went on to Cincy and evidently the rest is history.

As I said this Davis guy is a big baseball fan. He found out Shoeless Joe Jackson's house in Greenville SC was going to be destroyed and he bought it and moved it to a location outside of the Minor League Ball Park in Greenville. He rehabbed it and donated it as a museum for Jackson. Here is the story and a couple of pictures of the move...

House in South Carolina to be museum

    ESPN.com news services

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Baseball fans will soon get an inside look at Shoeless Joe Jackson, one of the game's most-storied players.

The home of the former Chicago White Sox star outfielder and Greenville native will open Friday prior a minor-league game between the Drive, the Class A South Atlantic League affiliate of the Red Sox, and Hickory. It was moved to a site near the stadium in early April.

The opening will be featured as part of a series on The Learning Channel in July. It followed the turning of Jackson's home into a baseball museum.

The show will feature the home's owner, developer Richard C. Davis, who was on the A&E series "Flip This House."

Crews were working late Thursday to finish the renovations on the 1,000-square-foot home. The rooms will feature pictures and some of Jackson's memorabilia, which will be permanent fixtures in the museum later this summer.

"We will open it to the public just [Friday]," Davis said. "Then it will officially open in July, Shoeless Joe Month."

Davis said a foundation will be set up to operate the museum.

Jackson is among the eight White Sox players involved in a conspiracy to fix the 1919 World Series. Those eight, who are known as the "Black Sox," were banned from baseball for life.

Jackson died in Greenville in 1951.

Tampa Rays had him from the start but he could not straighten up his life. Good to see he got it straightened out. Too bad for the Rays that Josh Hamilton took so long to straightened up.

I enjoyed Clay Council’s performance as well. He threw Hamilton close to 100 pitches which is a good amount for anyone but at 71, he'll need some ice today.

Hamilton, I think, is from NC.

He played in Charleston....I wanna say 2000 or 2001 with the River Dogs. We used to go to a LOT of games, he could crush the ball for sure.

Good to see him get his act together.

    that was awesome

the only thing that bugged me was how Justin Morneau was basically supposed to feel bad for winning the thing...ESPN's story got ruined...boohoo

Hell the guy who presented the check for the Boys and Girls club called him "Jason"..

I guess Morneau didnt win the MVP a couple years ago..

But you get used to that kind of stuff when you live in MN.

As it turns out...the show I mentioned above about Shoeless Joe Jackson's house was actually the show about Josh Hamilton as well.
In the one-hour special, Davis and his team first purchase the former home of baseball great Shoeless Joe Jackson in Greenville, SC and then work to transform it into a Shoeless Joe museum. Although Shoeless Joe was banned from baseball in 1921 due to his alleged involvement in the “Black Sox” scandal, his fans have worked tirelessly to restore his reputation ever since. For his part, Davis puts together a crew, transplants and repositions the house all in just one week, giving Shoeless Joe a place of honor in the hearts of baseball fans everywhere.

Assisting Davis in the project is construction foreman Josh Hamilton. A former professional baseball player himself with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Hamilton was sidelined in 2002 when a drug addiction crippled his ability to play. He was subsequently suspended from baseball. Now, Hamilton has a second chance: out of rehab and into Davis’ construction crew, Hamilton hopes this will be a stepping stone to getting his career back on track.

Davis and his team have just one shot to give both of these baseball greats a second chance. Will they pull it off?

And Troy was right...Hamilton was born in Raleigh and grew up in Cary NC. There was an article about the 71 year old batting practice pitcher that he used last night. He used to throw BP to Hamilton when he was in American Legion ball as a kid.

And didn't they mention that Hamilton made a promise to him as a kid to use him if he ever made it to the Home Run Derby?

Freaking unbelievable. Watched it with the family and we were beside ourselves.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I like stories like this. I just hope clean and sober sticks with the kid.

I'm tired of seeing so many of the "elite" jocks today thinking it is ok to piss their careers away (literally) by smoking weed, cocaine, steroids and other stupid stuff. It seems like so many of them are living the American Dream and can't handle the fame or are just plain stupid. I read something the other day that said 60% (3 out of 5) NBA players are broke 5 years after they leave the league. I guess bling and fun is more important than a life of financial security.

Similarly some shockingly large percentage of lottery jackpot winners (I won't make up an exact number but it is a vast majority) are bankrupt within five years.

Never underestimate the stupidity of people who do not earn their money.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Hamilton is a total stud. That derby was awesome. He was murdering the ball.
