Well I went out and meet another Polkie. We kicked back, and talked for a bit with some nice subtle tunes in the background. I got to see "his" out building. Meet his kids. It was all good. Spent a couple hours there, left with some gear. He has a couple Adcom GFA-565's with the original caps. One is acting up, and the other is going to get fixed before it brakes. I also left with an Adcom GDA-700. I knew my Sony 200 disc changer was lacking. What I didn't know was how much my Outlaw990 was lacking in the DAC section. I tried running the Sony analog, and optical through the Outlaw. The bass was lacking pretty bad. I thought of getting another Pre, but I have been contemplating a DAC for quit some time, but funds are too tight to have to figure out what is the missing link. Time for the quick review. Well I had to make another set of IC's(Silver of coarse), and I had that baby hooked up in no time. Right off the bat I noticed the bass was much tighter, and went down into sub bass regions with authority. The imaging had improved a bit. The vocals were more together where ever they happened to be in the sound stage. Mids are a little better, and the highs are slightly brassy. I attribute that to new cables. When my Silvers are new the bass is usually lacking. That is kinda scary because those 40 mids, and passive radiators were punching so hard it was just mind blowing. The bass control is so tight now too. Well soon the highs should smooth out. A little trick you can use to burnin IC's is to install them on a full powered source like between a CD, and Pre, or DAC and Pre. Even if the Pre's source isn't selected the signal is still generated by the source. Well back to the beginning. It was a pleasure meeting Russ, and he is coming over my place next:)
Thanks
Ben

That's why I love this state. Louisville was definitely lacking in the "slaughtered animal" category.

Gonna be a Partay in Conyers. I guess with all the Adcom Ben has I might as well leave the tubes at home. Especially those ugly a$$ mono's I have with the nasty bent chassis and those horrible KT88's. Lightman asked I never bing them back into his house. As a matter of fact he didn't want to even see them again. The Jolida 801 is fresh back from a tune-up and doesn't have more than 5 hours on it so I'm sure it wouldn't sound worth a shhhhhhe wore bluuuuuue velllllllvet.

Tom, dig out that box for the PSW1000 if its still around there. No biggie if not, but would like to have it if its around. I'll bring along a few of my trains I detailed and airbrushed for you to have a look see. I do decent work for the son of a poor black sharecropper.

You know Chuck, I think that box slid out of the house at some point. Don't know when, don't know how but I can't find the damn thing. I may have something that you can use though, but I'll keep looking. With the model RR stuff, you gots any Athearn? Oh, and if you want to bring those old, beat up amps I sure won't throw ya' out of Ben's house. Hell, I might even give you a beer or twelve. :D

Ben, I'll get up with Lightman for ya'. I'm sure that he'd love to come. It might depend on whether he has the youngsters or not. We'll see. I won't tell him about Chuck's little ol' tube amp.

You f*C#ers! My Mom is flying into town that day. Oh well. I would probably have a hard time getting out of the house anyway, since my daughter will only be a few weeks old at that point. Maybe sometime in the fall we can do it again.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
