So you want to build a MP3 rig on the cheap, but are using interconnects probably more expensive than the sum of the rest of the parts?

If you're going to do it, do it right. Be sure to rip your files to either FLAC or some other lossless format, you can buy a sound card(internal or external) with a digital out, and get a decent stand alone DAC.

Does your CDP have a digital in so it could be used as a DAC? Or if you get a decent enough of a DAC, you could share it with your CDP and will only have one pair of interconnects between your sources.

Not the best for quality playback, but for ease of use and flexiblity a modded Xbox is quite nice.

Best advice I can give is to go FLAC: see here

    http://flac.sourceforge.net/

Then us Media Monkey as the "juke box"/ file organizer.

    http://www.mediamonkey.com/

Get your learn and you'll have an awesome library/juke box with minimal if any loss of fidelity.

I use "Albumplayer" for those who collect cd albums, see pic. It is so simple and can be used with a touch screen if you can afford it. Can search artist - Album Title or individual track title. Can play flac and other lossless codecs. I have it running thru my HT rig and it sounds great using a Chaintech 701 sound card . Want to setup with my 2 channel setup with the Polk sda-crs's and Carver m1-ot amp. Will still use cds.

I picked up Disney MP3 player for $10 last week. It works for me for now. It's an impending doom that must be realized.
