OK guys I have recently seen a Pre that has SACD inputs, but only 2 channels in. Can an SACD that has only a 5.1 channel layer be played 2 channel without loss of material?
Thanks
Ben

Ben, every SACD disc made has a hi-rez 2 channel layer.Political Correctness'.........defined

F1 is right. To make things easier, you can find a menu setting in your player that automatically chooses the 2ch layer instead of the Multi-channel.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Thanks Bill. I'll see if mine allows default 2 channel layer.

Clyde,
It all depends. If you are going to spend, oh, 350 or less: I'd say buy the best CD player you can. I'd take a GOOD cd player over a cheapie SACD player. GOOD SACD is tough to beat though. Although title availability may present a challenge. The point is, it's not exactly cut and dry.
Of course I prefer vinyl.

ehhhh---I think Clyde is confused, he sat in the Shed listening for hours drooling over the sounds, all the digital discs he heard and described as being detailed and smooth were SACD.
Anyway we had a fun day.
