Whole House Wiring

While finishing my basement and adding a home theater, I started thinking about whole house audio and/or video. We plan on building a new house in the next two years and I would like to wire the whole house/outside for audio and maybe video. Does anyone know of a good source where I can learn more about what I should do?

Thank You.

Let me know when you get to the point of building, and I can help. If this is being done during initial construction, it shouldn't be too bad. Are looking for information for finishing out the theater now as well?

I'm in the same situation, will be building a new house in the next 2 years or so and right now I'm planning out whole-house wiring for the audio system and HT.

BTW thanks for posting the link!

Thanks for the replies guys. I ran a simple 5.1 with Dayton Audio in walls and ceilings for the basement theater using a PSW505 sub all running from an HK AVR55. I plan on leaving the in walls, so I didn't want to spend a lot on them.

I have learned that doing whole house systems will not be cheap if done right!

Haha, a good whole-house audio system of even 6-8 zones costs a lot!

Depends on the wire and if you do it yourself. I ran my brother's house with 600 feet of Belden 5000UE from BJC(2 surround,3 stereo zones) and we did it for about $275 total.

I have no problem with DIY, it's just the gear costs so much money. Anything that is semi-automated (Niles, NetStreams, etc.) costs a LOT!
