Maybe, just maybe, we'll see some drinkable beer from them if that happens. They need to save the beer world and seize all production on Bud Light and especially Michelob Ultra.

Agreed... I'd rather drink my own ocular fluid through a straw made of aluminum foil than pound a Michelob Ultra.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

This absolutely sucks. Being a native Saint Louisan, it's a very sad day in Missouri. Be prepared to pay for all the "free" attractions that AB had in STL.
First we sell the Chrysler building in NY to Abu Dhabi, now this. Goodbye "America." We are running in the red. When we send all our money overseas, they are bound to
want to spend it on something. They won't even have to fire a gun
to take us over. Just write a check. I'm sure China coud buy California
any time it wants. But who'd really want to?:D"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Sure, why not? Busch bought out Latrobe which was owned by the same Belgians before Busch bought them out. So now Rolling Rock will be back in Belgian hands. If they are smart, they'll buy the Latrobe Brewery back and start making Rolling Rock the right way again.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
This is a bad sign, and I do not even like their products. Bad sign for our nation that some of our largest corporations are being sold to foreign companies.:mad:I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

That's because the US refuses to change with the times, we should have converted to the metric system 40 years ago! (oops, there's a little derail there...)

The last American owned brewery down the tubes...many,many jobs will be lost

I think it sucks bigtime. A buddy is director of water quality at Seaworld and just told me it will really mess up his retirement, that was after I asked if he spoke Flemish and he said f*%k you!!! oops

When your country trades tradition for money, you lose your culture. It's all about the almighty dollar, and that's where I break ranks with "free-reign capitalism." Where's the damn loyalty? Steve, you are right, the problem with this takeover is that Anheuser-Busch was not for sale. -

Perhaps they should have thought of that before becoming a publically traded company. This is what happens. -

Seaworld is owned by Busch...

I don't think that's all that true either. It was started in 1860 in St Louis. It's old for sure but the oldest breweries in the country are here in the Northeast and up in the Milwaukee area. The oldest is in Pottsville, PA and that is D.G. Yuengling & Sons who make Yuengling. That brewery was started in 1829. There are a few others from the 1850's too.
Busch is the largest brewer though and even though many people don't like their products, they still sell enourmous amounts of beverages world-wide. Budweiser is also considered a good example of an American Pilsner. Are there better ones out there? Hell yeah! But one thing Busch does well is consistency. Each but tastes just as bad as the last.
The real shame lies in the fact that when a company that large goes to overseas ownership, it reduces the U.S.'s GDP noticeably and that hurts the economy.
Thankfully we still have Miller which was started in 1855 (yep, older than Busch) but Miller hasn't been an American owned company 2002 I think although it's holdings are here in the States, it's based out of England, London to be exact and owned by SABMiller. Which is a South African originating company. But then there is Coors which is owned by Canadian giant Molson who they "merged" with in 2004. Coors didn't come about until 1873 but Molson is the oldest brewer in North America started in 1786. There were older ones, Ben Franklin started one in like 1750-something but it's long since closed.
So maybe you're right after all?Expert Moron Extraordinaire

So, this ISN'T the same co. that tried last month for the buyout? I remember hearing that A deal had fallen thru?I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!
-
It is, and it looks like it will happen.

I thought this thread was going to be about the atrocity that is selling an American Brand to a foreign company. Thanks god it's not. America's got some good beer, but our big name producers are crap.

No, it's the same. There is just a brewery called the Latrobe Brewing Company out here in Latrobe, Pa. They used to brew Rolling Rock and most of the town's residents were employed by the Latrobe Brewing Company. InBev bought Latrobe and the Rolling Rock brand in 1995 when one of the companies known as AmBev bought it. In 2004, AmBev merged into the InBev conglomerate with a bunch of other companies. In 2006, InBev decided to sell the Rolling Rock brand and the brewery. The brand went fast to Anheuser-Busch who promptly shut down operations which cause InBev to idle the brewery and moved brewing of Rolling Rock to St. Louis I think it was. They put an entire town out of work. Meanwhile InBev still owned the brewery but had no product to make there. So the brewery sat on the block for almost two years while InBev tried to screw City Brewing Company into taking a hit on the purchase of the brewery. City Brewing Company and InBev finally reached an agreement in 2006 and the purchase was finalized in late '06.
In 2007, City, which is a contract brewer, received a contract from The Boston Brewing Company to brew Sam Adams brews for them. The Boston Brewing Company specifically asked to have the brews made at the Latrobe Brewery. So City put the Latrobe Brewing Company back to work in the Latrobe Brewery. the Boston Brewing Company even issued a statement saying they were honored to have their fine products being brewed by the fine people at the Latrobe Brewery. They even pledge a bunch of money to upgrade the plant and make it a land mark and stuff. The Latrobe Brewing Company has been on the site since 1893.
So now InBev will wind up with the brand that they sold 4 years ago. Wonder if they will squash it this time.
BTW, Busch had and probably still has a big union boycott in the area for **** over all those people, union and non-union, in a pretty nasty move. It didn't sit well with many in the area and because of it, Rolling Rock is not nearly as big of a seller as it once was around here. Sam Adams though is one of the most popular brands in the area.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Jim Koch is an awesome person. With the price of hops rising smaller breweries are getting screwed since they can't buy hops in large bulk like Miller, Anheuser-Busch, etc. Jim went and purchase large amounts of hops wholesale and in turn reselling it to the small breweries for the same price. He knows that keeping smaller craft breweries in business helps keep everyone on top of there game to make the best brews. That is a true brewer IMO and gained a lot of respect from me.

just dont like the flavor.
that said, if you dont like the fact you will no longer be buying an amaerican beer, then by all means dont frink it. there's tons of good american beer out there.
Sam Adams, Yeungling, Miller. Dont like big european companies buying american ones.....especially with the exchange rate for currency right now, I suggest you nip it in the bud (pun FULLY intended) and dont buy Bud anymore.
