Hey guys, Here is the situation. I have just gotten a pair of R300's and have inheriated a pair of Insignia (the ones with the bowed houseing) and after some wierd evens will have a HK 146 (whimpy I know) on Tuesday. I don't have a center channel or a sub. I do have an old speaker that was a rear for a box set my parents bought 6 years ago. Is that worth makeing into the center channel or is there a better way to just set up the 4 speakers I have?

Thanks for any suggestions

Your HK is fine for those speakers. You can set your HK to phantom center, and be better off till you get a matching center.
    Enjoy

I would give it a try and see how it sounds as a center. If you can't stand it I would go to a 4.0 for now untill you can get a decent center and go 5.0.
    7.1 HOME THEATER:
    Center: CSi3
    Front: RTi10
    Surround: RTi A3
    Rear Surround: RTi4
    Subwoofer: Mirage Omni S10
TV: Sharp Aquos 42" 1080p LCD
    Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR805
    Blu-Ray Player / CD Player / DVD Player / Media Server / Game Console / Best money I've ever spent: 60GB PS3

Thanks I will look into that when it comes on Tuesday. I was worried that it would sound bad without a true 5.1 system

Some of us prefer 4.1 to 5.1.

How do you set up a 4.1? Because I have never really liked the idea of a center channel. Its probably all the cheap systems fault but it seemed to make things havea wierd balance

Set your receiver/pre-pro to "Center=Phantom" or "Center=None", and the information will be sent to your mains.

i know this question wasnt directed to me but you can do it with a lot of recievers

usallly people have it set something FS-CS-SS when using and all you do is switch to FS or FL-C*-SS .
