Okay I thought that I wanted a Kicker L5 but I am not sure. I know I want only one sub i know that one sub is going to be a 10 inch and I know that I just want something that will be a nice balanced sub nothing that can be heard 2 blocks away. So I am open to suggestion.

How about a Polk SR104? I have a single twelve SR and I'm pretty happy with it.

The new MM1040 or MM1040 DVC should be a consideration @ MSRP $179.95.

No offense, but looks come in last place when picking my "audio" equipment.
    Check out:
IDMAX 12 V3. is a GREAT sub. Just google it. Considered to be one of the best. Great bang for buck.

I imagine that neither of us were saying they "look sweet" on a purely aesthetic level. The MMs look to perform well too.

Okay I am going to go with a Polk but which to choose? A mm1040 or a mm2104, and that should I get the DVC the amp I will be using is a Jl audio 500*1. Here is a link http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=1365001V2&tp=115
Also if you recommend the dvc why and how should I connect it, this would be my first dvc sub.

i have sr12's right now and i love them, but im going to get a pair of the new Stereo Integrity Mags when they come out. the old versions where great and i never got to get a pair, so this time i have got to cop a pair. they are pure sound quality subs that handle 1000w in a 1 cubic foot box and cost $250 shipped. they are only 5.5 inches deep also. i will still keep the sr's though just incase the mags cant keep up.

I don't want a 12 inch and I definitely don't want 1000 watts going to a sub in my car.
In my little honda civic no WAY but thank you for your input.

just a quick question, why dont you want a 12" sub? the new SI Mag is a VERY efficient sub, you only need about 400-500 watts to get great output. the 1000w is the power rating it doesnt mean you have to throw 1000 watts at it. good 12" subs sound great. a 1 cubic foot box is small and will fit just about any car.

Well I don't care what kind it is and who makes it they can not reproduce drums and tight low frequency like 10's.

that is a myth. 12" subs can produce audiophile quality bass as well as 10" subs. check out this link and go to number 8.

Well I have sat in different cars truck suv's with 10's 12's 8's 15's and even 20's and I will stand by 10's I just called crutchfield "the people I trust" and they said that a smaller driver will give you tighter bass. You have your opinion I and crutchfield have ours. I will stick with 10's. I was in a pontiac grand am with 2 preloaded rockford punch stage 2 12's with the rockford amp and all I haerd was long throws of bass it was in a sealed box too.

did you ever listen to a quality 12" sub? listen to a polk sr124-dvc and then come back and tell me what you think. ask Mac who won many sound quality competitions about 12" subs. he is a long time member and knows what he is talking about.

ok the MM 1040 DVC is the best option for you, but you should buy 2 of the becouse your JL amp is 500 RMS at 2 Ohm. and this Sub is 270 RMS

If you are going to run just one 10" be sure to adjust the gains properly, it should be at the half or a quarter depending on your HU

i dont want to start an argument, i dont care what you put in your car. i just want to dispell the myth that 10" subs sound better than 12' subs. its not the size that matters but the system Q that matters. we are here to inform people with as much factual info as possible. 12" high quality drivers sound just as good as 10" drivers.

    A few things...

    1. Smaller drivers DO NOT automatically equate to tighter bass.
    2. Crutchfield = not really experts.

If you are set on a 10" Polk, I'd suggest either a single SR104-DVC or a pair of MM1040 or MM1040D's with that amp.

Well if you don't want our advice, then what the heck are you doing asking questions on an internet forum? Really, that makes absolutely no sense.

If Crutchfield has all the answers, then what do you need us for?

That must be why their prices are so outrageous.

If you are hell bent on a quality 10" sub woofer, there are number of quality subs that will blend well with the front stage and do not need loads of power to get the job done.

You asked for advice and received accurate info(yes, it's a myth) from killerb and several others..and you then get into a disagreement about it.

Do you really feel Crutchfield are experts? Some of their sales people really know their stuff but a good number of their phone staff only know the basics.
