Too bad they didn't shoot it next to an American quarter. It would look even bigger. :)

That's a nice size and to think they are not even in the swing of things, who knows what lies there. I've been watching Ice road truckers ( not the best show in the world) but wow! I see the temp out there and the signs and think of you!

We don't kill people in Canada while looking for diamonds...at least not on purpose.

It is a good movie, though the issue is real and certainly older than the movie.

Missed that it was Canadian though, which makes my post mostly irrelevant. My bad.

... giving ya the credit that you're interested in staying on topic ....

Guilt has nothing to do with it. actually I don't know that much about the mining industry.
Its just that I never got the point of the blin blin culture. people put those things in their teeth, and on all five fingers ... and for what? its just a shiny rock.
Diamonds are not even that rare, as they actually need a world wide monopoly to control the availability of diamonds on the markets, in order to create an artificial shortage.

Besides, from what I've seen, hot women, don't need those things to look good.

It doesn't? It may not for you, but you called them VULGAR. Why?

Show a bunch of people getting slaughtered for something you pay a lot of money for and wear on your body has a tendency to make people feel guilty. As if somehow their purchase of a product makes them responsible for how it it was obtained. How come most people don't care about what employees (or slaves) went through to make some of their clothing? Because it didn't cost $5,000 for your shirt? The reality is that there are mining operations that make sure that type of stuff doesn't happen. Just as not all clothing manufacturers are employing sweat shops to produce their products.

If there's a conspiracy to keep diamond prices inflated, don't buy them if it's too expensive for you. They're only worth what someone is willing to pay for them, and they're not a necessity.

I don't get the hype about diamonds either, but whatever. I try not to date superficial women and hopefully one would realize putting that money into a house would be smarter than buying the biggest rock we can't afford.

I really can't comment on the ethics of the diamond industry because I'm not fluent with the facts.
I've heard about the injustice going on in Africa but I also understand there are diamonds in countries such
as Russia and Canada, and things are different over there.

conspiracy? don't know. Cartel? yes sir. they payed hundreds of millions in settlements (in the US alone) for fixing the price of diamonds.

I guess I think diamonds are vulgar for the same reasons you think the women who want them are superficial.

I don't see why it's so bad to feel "guilty" about it. Yes, if you buy something that is obtained by some horrific method that causes deaths, you're allowed to feel guilty. I try not to get all preachy about it, I just speak with my wallet as you suggest, but is it really so bad to choose what you buy based on that type of criteria? You make people seem like villains for giving a crap about human suffering.

I'm no bleeding heart but it doesn't mean I can't at least try to care occasionally.

Hell, even if you don't care, everyone here **** about Bose not because their products are all that terrible but because their marketing is dishonest and their product is overpriced. How is the diamond industry any different? It's falsely inflated, overpriced and dishonestly marketed.

I didn't say it's not okay for you to feel guilty, but I think it's wrong to lay that guilt trip on others. Especially since most diamonds aren't obtained in the manner so often suggested. That wouldn't make for a good movie.

There are all sorts of messed up things going on in the world. I'm happy I live here and not where those things are happening. We've had hard times here and people worked through it. Other countries need to do that as well.

As far as pricing goes -- I don't believe that non-necessities such as diamonds are worth anymore than what someone will buy the product for. Women don't need them, as much as they like to act like they do.

God knows I should be. Funny thing. Since I joined Polk Audio and met some of you I have spent more money on audio in the past 5 years that I have in all the other years. And there are a few years. My wife just keeps saying that is sound GREAT. What can I say.

Only ONE piece to go Carl - THE AMP.
