I really wish I'd started out with a vision when it came to building a system. Home theater is pretty overrated imho. If I had started with this sweet NAD power amp and a set of decent floorstanders and knew it would kill any HT costing several times more I would've saved some coin and been happier with my system.

Now when budget allows, you can get some LSi15's to the front, move your 7's to the back and you will be in business.

    Just a thought.

Because in post #34 he mentioned this.

If you want floorstanders in the LSi series - the 15's are what I recommend. If knocking speakers off stands is not an issue (in my case large dogs and kids both make it a possibility) and you are fine with bookshelf speakers - the 9's may even be more recommended than the 15's.

It comes down to aesthetics, placement possibilites and room acoustics for which one would be better in your situation.

    Thanks.

I was just curious because as you might know already that I bought a pair of nines the other day. And later down the road I might buy another pair of LSi's. I was just wondering if I should buy 15's or another pair of 9's. If the 15's had some kind of major advantage I would go with them. But bookshelf's getting knocked over is not a problem for me so I'll probably go with 9's all the way around some day.

Anyways carry on with your thread and good luck with what ever you buy.

By the way those 7's have really went up in the last few hours. I was watching them before you even started this thread.:D

    Cheers

For music I would think the 15's are better than the 9's due to their 10" drivers being able to go lower than the 9's. Some people don't mind a sub for music but others do.

As to the Polk Direct auction on LSi7s, it's no longer interesting. I'm the guy who waits until there are 30 seconds left in an auction to bid, so when the price is already so high with so many watchers/bidders I'd guess these will break $400. The last set I watched sold for high-$300s. I was hoping for $350ish, but there's always another auction.

I'm pretty sure it was $425.00 + shipping. $475.00 with shipping.

I only paid $525.00 for my Lsi9's shipped. They should be here tuesday I can't wait.:D

An interesting thing happened when I connected my RTi6 to a true power amp: they sounded better. :)

Particularly in the low end, but throughout the spectrum, the sound is fuller-bodied and more stable. On the other hand, it's a tad harsher. I don't know how to describe it, but maybe it's cleaner than the H/K so everything has a little edge with it.

I think the best way to put this is "transparency." The NAD makes the RTi6 sound like RTi6 while the H/K provides its own subtle tone control via warmness/distortion, as do all budget receivers. I'm enjoying this immensely, however, and dynamic passages sound much less strained coming through the speakers. I used to think the congestion and strain was a limitation of bookshelves, but now I know better.

These little bookshelves are putting out a ton of bass... enough that I can run them without a sub and not notice the octave and a half my brain knows I'm missing but the upper harmonics of those low frequencies allow me to ignore.
